CITI reconsideration help?

Hi, I recently applied for a Citi card and received a call back from the supervisor's reconsideration line and she basically told me since I had applied for credit cards recently or "too many recent inquries" that there was absolutely nothing she could do. They could not overcome it. NOW, I dont know if this is true. Should I try again and call back and try to get a different supervisor? Should I say something in particular? Perhaps someone knows something I Don't? That can get me approved for this card. I'd hate to waste the hard inquiry.  The supervisor who called me seemed to be pretty serious. I tried being polite as I could and even cracking a joke, they didn't want any of that apparently.

Thank you very much.

Re: CITI reconsideration help?

How many recent inquiries do you have, credit lines, age of your accounts, true fico scores?

Re: CITI reconsideration help?

Recent inquiries? How do you classify that? Last 90 days? Last 6 months? Last 2 years? I just started using my credit [again] in 2013. I applied for a capital one card in August 2013, a small bank loan in August 2013 and a Kay Jewelers card in August 2013. I then didnt apply for anything else for the rest of the 2013 year. 2 weeks ago I applied for a Barclays card, approved. Hit on Transunion. Then I went on an App Spree because my ficos are high. I applied for 5 cards in one day rapid fire right after another. All approved besides CITI. Right now, I think I have 5 inquiries total on Equifax / 6 total on Experian and 5 total on Transunion. Age of my accounts is low since I just started using my credit again but Ive been using credit since I was 18 so age of my overall file is over 8 years. True fico scores.  I dont know all 3 but they are in the 700's. Not 701 either, Probably 730+. As of 5 days ago, my Transunion FICO was 763. No late payments ever on my credit. Not one single deragatory across the board on all 3 bureaus.

Thank you.

Re: CITI reconsideration help?

Generally new accounts are considered as anything under 6 months, though it can vary based on the lender and individual's profile.

Seeing that you did rack up a lot of recent inquiries and new accounts, I doubt there's much hope with your citi app. You can always try again, but it's just going to result in more inquiries and chances are still going to be slim. If I were you I would just wait till July / August and try again. Each citi recon attempt usually result in 1-2 additional inquiries on top of the original inquiry....
JPMorgan Palladium (100k), AmEx Platinum (NPSL), AmEx SPG (46k), AmEx BCP (42k), Chase Sapphire Preferred (47k), Citi Prestige (31k), Citi Thank You Preferred (27k), Citi Executive AAdvantage (25k), JPMorgan Ritz-Carlton (21k), Merrill+ (15k), US Bank Cash+ (22.5k), Wells Fargo (12k), Bloomingdale’s (12.4k), Chase Freedom (5k), Discover IT (5k).

+1,

I think its really good that you got 5 cards recently and let them age for atleast 6 months.

Then you can try again.

Re: CITI reconsideration help?

Okay, thanks for the help guys. I applied for Discover, Barclay, Chase, Capital One Business, American Express, Citi. Applied for all same day besides Barclay. Applied for Barclay 2 weeks ago. Got the 4 cards in the same day. Only one declined was Citi. So I guess I cant complain TOO MUCH, lol. Right? ha. I'll wait 6-7 months and use the cards Im getting, make a good example, and then apply again. Thanks again. : ]

Re: CITI reconsideration help?

You had better keep an eye on that Barclaycard.  The general consensus is that they do not like to see multiple new accounts within six months or so of account opening, let alone two weeks.

Good thinking, you had a nice haul in your spree.  Treat em nice and em age, your scores will recover.  Nice job!!

Re: CITI reconsideration help?

What do you mean about Barclays? They approved me. The card was already sent out. Just waiting probably just 2-4 more days for it in the mail. I havent activiated it yet. I can do it online but I was going to wait until I actually get the physical card. Should I activate it online? Thank you. : ]

I suggest you check out this thread:

My Barclay CC was cancelled

Best of luck to you.  Also, if it were me I would wait until I had the card in my hand before activating it.
