CITI sending mixed messages in the same envelope?

I don't have a photo, as I'm at work, but yesterday I received an interesting direct mail (seemingly targeted) offer from Citi. It is the Diamond Preferred with 21 months of no interest. It sounds great, to be honest, but it was interesting to note that the envelope read "You have been pre-approved for this offer," yet the verbiage in the letter itself reads "please visit citi.com/applyofferxxxx2049234" (or whatever) to "apply for this offer you have been pre-selected for."

Citi, why can't you just be clear?! I'd love to take advantage of getting in with Citi maybe two or three months from now, once I've had my Chase cards age just a tad.

Anyone know if this offer is legit or worthwhile?

Did you check their preapprovals online?

Yeah, check Citi's prequal , if you hsve a code, enter it and if it matches, its probably golden. If they say they've found the DP for you not cards that might be what you are looking for, also good sign.

This is where I would normally bring up the difference between preapproved and prequalified, but yeah mixed messages indeed. +1 on checking the prequal page; if you get something that looks solid go with whichever has the lowest APR, the mailer or the website.

I did. The message reads:

Khalifa, you're Pre-Qualified to apply for the following credit card offers. See below for 4 additional offer(s).

Citi Simplicity Card (I chose the BT preference)

Enjoy 0% Intro APR on purchases and balance transfers for 21 months; after that, the variable APR will be 19.49%.

You may also be interested in these credit cards.

Citi® Diamond Preferred® Card

Enjoy 0% Intro APR on purchases and balance transfers for 21 months; after that, the variable APR will be 18.49%

Also has the Citi Double Cash, Citi ThankYou Preferred, and Citi ThankYou Premiere listed.

So the language is still a bit puzzling. "Pre-Qualified to apply..." yet it does offer a single interest rate. What does it all mean?! lol

Normally when you get solid rates. It's the real deal. I have similar offers. Haven't bitten on any of them yet.

If you are looking for a BT card that Diamond Preferred is a good option. You can ask for APR reductions via chat and it can PC to Double Cash if you want. In my experience their single APR offer was an instant approval.

Good to know. Might bite near Christmas Season, as that is when my 0% intro offer on my AmEx BCE ends. Have a balance on it I'd like to transfer over.

Yea, the description of the card looked great. Kind of a strange name for the card, though. I would think the Diamond Preferred name would make more sense for what they currently call the ThankYou Preferred. Diamond sounds a lot more elite Smiley Very Happy

Re: CITI sending mixed messages in the same envelope?

GF gets the exact same mailer EVERY SINGLE MONTH..LOL

But, she has no interest.. She's happy with her Barclays JetBlue, Chase Amazon, and her Crappy Wells Fargo Platinum siggy Visa (What a crappy card - 23.99% APR with a clean CR, and they wont lower it. But, she does have a $18K CL - Thank god all of her balances are on JetBlue @0%)

NFCU $60.4k/PenFed $22.5k/Commerce $15K/53 $11K/Synovus $14K/BBT $11K/CapOne $12K/DCU $7.5K/BMO $7.5K/Chase $14.5k/Cabelas $10K/ and many many more!
Total CL $398600, plus car and RV loan.
Ooh. Ooh. Getting closer to that $500K mark!

I get them at least twice a week. Just biding my time to take advantage of the generous offer Smiley Happy

And yea, WF isn't the best when it comes to rates and rate lowering. Too bad.
