The limits on two of my credit cards, Sears and Shell, both issued by Citibank were recently reduced or closed. Sears reduced my limit from $1800 to $900 which was about $75 more than I owed. Shell closed my $400 limit with a zero balance in its entirety. I believe this was done as a result of a tax lien that appeared on my credit report in January because I got a letter from each creditor saying that "recent negative credit experiences" caused a review of my account and prompted them to make this change. I have no negative trade experiences since 6/07. I don't think they would be making that change now. So, I am assuming these changes made in February were done so as a result of the reporting of tax lien that appeared on my reports in January.
The tax lien was issued in error and has been expunged in its entirety by the taxing authority. They sent me a letter and told me to send it to the credit bureaus for deletion. However, I would like to make a request to have my limits with Sears and Citibank restored since this information was reported inaccurately and I plan to send them each letters as well.
Anyone know have an idea of the Citibank address that I can use for this? Would I use the payment addresses or another address?
Thank for your help!
Hi, I would call the backdoor numbers for Citibank off the backdoor number list and talk to a credit analyst. Be prepared to fax over a copy of the letter and probably mail one in also just to be on the safe side and ask them to re-instate your credit lines. Might as well ask for an increase too if your credit file is in good shape, kill two birds with one stone or inquiry as the case is. They should be able to rereview your credit file with the letter but they may also ask that you send it to the credit bureaus and let your credit file update first before they reinstate your credit lines. It would be better to call each of the major credit bureaus and either fax or express mail your copy of the letter to each of them asking for a deletion of the tax lien. Once each of them has deleted it off your credit files you should be able to get the limits reinstated and possibly raised. Its all gonna depend on the credit analyst that you get, some may want the credit bureaus updated and maybe you will get one that will just need a copy of the letter to fix things. Good luck and be sure to let everyone know how this turns out.
