CL to expect for third card from AMEX?

Hi all,

I got 2 cards from Amex a few years ago. I'm looking to add another for the 0% APR for dental work. My current limits are 20k and 9k. Any idea what I should expect for the third card? No new credit requested other than an auto loan in the last 3 years.

Re: CL to expect for third card from AMEX?

I don't know if anyone here has a formula for predicting Amex starting limits with any accuracy, but I can't imagine any such forecast would be reliable unless it factors in information you haven't included, such as:

Your current income

The income you most recently reported to Amex when you last requested a CLI or new account.

Your EX FICO at the time of your last CLI or new Amex account

Personal spend: Amex Gold, Amex Schwab Plat., BofA PR+CCR(x2), Costco
Business use: Amex Bus. Plat., BBP, Lowes Amex AU, CFU AU
Perks: Delta Plat., United Explorer, IHG49, Hyatt, "Old SPG"
Mostly SD: Freedom Flex, Freedom, Arrival
Upgrade/Downgrade games: ED, BCE
SUB chasing: AA Platinum Select

Current income - 97k. Last reported was 93k. The last FICO at the time that *they* initiated a limit increase was only about 680 (due to high balances). I just paid off massive debt, so once they bureaus get the snapshot, I expect about a 70-80 point increase before I request a new card.

Re: CL to expect for third card from AMEX?

I will guess $10k. If they give you “more” than that it might be reallocation of limits.

My second AMEX a Platinum SkyMiles, got $10k

Hilton in 2015 got $10k

SPG in 2015 got &10k

EDP in 2015 got $15k, likely because it is not Co-branded.

Delta Reserve at Jan 2018 got $14,700, but reallocated from my Delta Platinum so net increase in credit was only $5,500.

High Bal Jan 2009 $116k on $146k limits 80% Util.
Oct 2014 $46k on $127k 36% util EQ 722 TU 727 EX 727
April 2018 $18k on $344k 5% util EQ 806 TU 810 EX 812
Jan 2019 $7.6k on $360k EQ 832 TU 839 EX 831
March 2021 $33k on $312k EQ 796 TU 798 EX 801
May 2021 Paid all Installments and Mortgages, one new Mortgage EQ 761 TY 774 EX 777
April 2022 EQ=811 TU=807 EX=805 - TU VS 3.0 765
