So... I was just poking around my AMEX account today, because I remembered that they had the CLI button on there a while back, but I couldn't use it because it had been less than 6 months since my last increase. I remembered what I had read here about requesting them to double your limit at each increase, so I asked for $9,000... current limit was $10,000. And they gave it to me. Wheeeeee!
Problem is, I rarely use my SkyMiles AMEX, except for the obvious Delta purchases, and things like COSTCO that don't take my CapOne Venture (Visa). I'm just curious as to how likely they are to cut this back if I don't put some serious purchases on there from time to time? Or maybe they don't care?
I only ask because I was one of many who saw their limits slashed during the credit crunch taking me from 40% util, to 99% util and plunging my score. Since that scarring, I don't let more than a 3% balance report across all of my cards, with that balance being held on my Venture card, since it's pretty much all we use in order to rack up the travel $$$.
Thoughts?

As long as you take care of the card I don't see why they would take it away from you.

+1 - take care of it and no worries at all. And, congrats on the CLI - nice!
First off Congrats! So your new credit limit is $19,000? Regarding the CLI request...I thought we can request up to 3x the limit?
I don't think that AMEX is notorious for CLD. You treat them well ,they love you long time.

Yes, $19,000 now. You very well may be correct on the 3x the limit. Back about 8-9 months ago, it seemed like people were having the most success with just under 2x, so that's why I did that. Guess I should have checked to see if the trends had changed, but oh well. It's pretty unlikely that I'll put that much on my card anyway, barring a major life emergency, so I'll be content with my $19,000 (plus my other cards) for another 6 months. ![]()

Nice!
I got approved for the Blue Sky 2 weeks ago for $9,100 and can't wait for 61 days to pass by for CLI. What is the income you stated on your application if you don't mind sharing?
Nice figure....now I am starting to wonder if i should request 3x the limit with 57k ![]()
