CSP- Wife Gets an Offer

I have spent the past two years working on our credit, after a challenging life event. In another 2 to 3 years, we are hoping to chase a mortgage for the first time. That aside the fact, one of my personal goals- credit card wise- was to pick up the CSP. I even took a hard pull and a quick denial before I finally obtained it. But, I did get it and it rounded out my 'Chase Trifecta'.

Now I'm gardening. Growing the hard work I've put in and tonight I take a stroll onto Chases' site and see she's received a 'Just For You' offer for the CSP. Just like that. I do keep in mind that, it's largely due to my hard work at building- because I'm the credit-wise one and she leans on me for that. But, she's practically done nothing and picked up a CSP offer. lol.

So here lies the question; should I go ahead and have her app for it when it seems like a for sure thing and she too then would obtain her 'trifecta'? Also, I'm curious partly because, if so, then that's 2 to 3 years growth on hers (if we presumably did it) and mine as well going into a hopeful mortgage situation.

I feel it would grow our combined profile quite well. What are your thoughts?

Re: CSP- Wife Gets an Offer

Congrats on your progress in rebuilding.

If you have a CSP, the household has the trifecta since the points are transferrable together.

If the green check mark appeared on her account, her offer, then technically ( appropriately ) it is her decision to make.

The CSP is a good card. Many here may balk at the $95 AF, but the decision to take on the AF, as well as next steps in her rebuild should be DW. It is good that you help her, but each individual should take on their own credit decisions.

Thanks 👍🏽

I am aware it is her decision. We make decisions together. And the AF isn't much of a concern for us. Reaaaally, the question is- what is the commonality of others having two of the same premium cards in the household and does it really matter or not? We aren't SUB chasers, but being that we are building up our limits and that the CSP does incidentally offer a nice SUB anyway- it's not a horrible card to have, but why not two?

If you just pool everything into one account, there’s probably no reason for her to have her own account over an AU account. Why bother with the AF?  If not, two separate accounts might make sense. Just depends.

Hold out for the CSR...then you will be able to say you have a CSP and a CSR, which is not supposed to happen. Smiley Wink

Re: CSP- Wife Gets an Offer

You can get as high as 75000 pts for the CSP; if you’re going to spend the money anyways that’s worth $937.50 even at the 1.25% from a csp, which would pay your annual fee for >9 years...

Something I had considered was, perhaps a year or so after her picking up the CSP, I might then PC my own CSP to CSR. In the meantime, I just want to make sure that all UR points will funnel into one account. I wasn't certain of any stipulations regarding having two CSP's amongst the household.

Also...

Would it be reaching too far to send her a 'friend referral' to pick up the additional 15000 bonus points? Would that be interfering with her applying thru the 'just for you' offer?

If she's under 5/24 then it shouldn't really matter. If she can prequal for a CSP then she should be approved on a referral app too. It might be problematic if she was over 5/24 as the selected for you offers are specifically known to bypass that hurdle.
