DH's (I'm an AU) Cabela's Visa expires in April; so we received our new cards in the mail today.
They now bear the Visa Signature logo, and the accompanying letter welcomes us to the Signature program.
If I understand Barry's blog on "Is there no limit to the confusion surrounding NPSL cards", I'm guessing that all Visa Signature cards (including this new Cabelas) operate as NPSL cards??????
Bummer.
And, yes, I think I do need an aspirin - just as Barry predicted in his blog. Maybe an aspirin AND a hot fudge sundae. I'll be watching those CR's to see if I can understand exactly how this big boy is reporting. I'll just keep my fingers crossed that it will continue to report the CL's.
And looking at the Visa Signature link in Barry's blog, it looks like some of our other cards will be going in the same direction.
Edit: As I learned through this thread (and hemi961 - thank you!), this card qualified for Signature status because of purchases made during the past year. According to Cabela's website, $10,000 in annual purchases qualifies you for a Signature Visa. $25,000 qualifies you for a black Signature Visa. So, it wasn't a universal change as I had naively assumed when I first saw the card. I also edited the subject title because it was an upgrade rather than a universal change. Sorry if my post was misleading - this was all SO new to my little rebuilding world. And thanks to everyone for posting such helpful info.
Im interested in this development. I LOVE cabelas and havent went for there card because I hate to show high util if I dont PIF before the statement cuts. This could solve my whole problem. Please let me know if it changes on your report ill be the first one on line to app for it!
My two World cards (MC version of Sig) do report, but many, many don't.
It's really variable, that's for sure!

I'm still unhappy about my Macy's not reporting the CL, so I'm apt to not be happy about other cards following suit. But, I guess it could potentially be a plus. I just hope they don't report my Highest Balance ($1,000) rather than the CL ($10,000). That would stink.

It's really variable, that's for sure! And that's what I'm worried about.

When I noticed that Cabela's offered a signature card about a year ago, I called to see what the requirements for getting one were. They told me that there were no underwriting requirements, and that you don't apply for it but that anyone who spent $15,000 (I think) in a year would be automatically upgraded. Yikes! We do put a boatload through this card, but I didn't think it was that much. Our letter says it is an upgrade "because of our loyalty and excellent credit history". I thought they were just sweet-talking an overall change in their program. Of course if I'd called right back and asked someone else I might have gotten a different answer. ETA: I got curious and checked our spending last year - it totalled $9600. Can't help as far as whether or not it will report cl since mine wasn't upgraded. One of my world cards (BofA) does but my other world card and my visa signature card don't.
I guess we'll be uber-careful not to report a balance until we see just how they report. I've got to wait a whole month before I see the next reporting go through.
I must just be a cranky mean old thing - I'll try to look at this as potentially positive.
In the meantime, if anyone else has one of these babies, I hope you'll post and let us know how it's reporting for you.
Press release I found from Jan. 2009 which was the launch date for the signature card.
" Cabela's Incorporated (NYSE: CAB), the World's Foremost Outfitter® of hunting, fishing and outdoor gear, announced today that World's Foremost Bank, Cabela's wholly-ow.ned bank subsidiary and issuer of Cabela's-branded CLUB Visa credit card, rings in the New Year with the introduction of the CLUB Visa Signature card. This new loyalty program offers CLUB Visa cardholders with a minimum annual spend of $25,000 and excellent credit history new benefits and enhanced opportunities to earn more free merchandise at Cabela's".
According to the Cabela's website a spend of $10,000 upgrades to signature and $25,000 gets you a black signature card with 5% rewards. Didn't mean to deviate from the original intent of the thread which was how it will report but I was interested to hear of someone who actually got the signature version.
Thanks Hemi,
That info is very helpful to me - and I'm sure others as well.
I totalled my spending from the past 12 statements, so I'm betting they went back one statement further than I did to get the ten grand total. I didn't mention that the Cabelas' points go up to 3 per dollar spent at Cabelas with this version. (We dont' shop Cabelas much, ironically, so I don't pay much attention to that).
I'm starting to adjust my thinking to believe it is a real, rather than a PR upgrade - thanks for helping me get there.
We'll see if I'm still as happy when we see how it reports.
As DH and I are rebuilders, I'm not accustomed to being "upgraded."
A quick update: Cabela's just reported and the CL is intact.
And, the annual spending is calculated per calendar year (vs. past 12 months).
Thanks again to everyone for providing such helpful info!
Did you get a CLI also?
Are the APR better with the Signature card?
