Can I apply for a secured card now or wait?

I'm 24 now but made bad choices as a teen and had lots of accounts closed, some because of default and others because they saw the defaults and closed my accounts to play it safe. I lost accounts from Citi, Barclays, HSBC, Chase, AMEX, Discover, and Synchrony.  I know, it's bad. I lost so many accounts because of anxiety and bad decisions. For what it's worth, I didn't have a balance with AMEX, Discover, or Synchrony — they only closed my accounts because my credit score was tanking from the other accounts. I also had a student loan balance of $2k that I paid off in full, but only after it went to collections.

I still have a Capital One Venture because thank the lord they haven't closed my account for some reason. I have a $6.5K CL that they even increased despite my credit score collapse, and I spend about $800/mo on it and PIF each month. I also work with a firm that I'm using to pay each month and negotiate my debts with the other creditors. They recently got settlements with Citi and Chase so I'm making progress.

My Venture card I rely on as an emergency card in case something happens. But since my credit score has tanked to the 500s I don't feel I can rely on that alone; they could close it at any time. I was thinking maybe I could get a US Bank secured card as a backup. Do you guys think they'd accept me even though I'm still paying off cards that went went to collections and that I negotiated?

If you have a checking with US BANK your chances of approval should be higher but its hard to say with a credit profile having 'baddies. I was approved for the secured card after my 3rd try haha and I've been banking with them since 2012. The first 2 times I applied I had a clean credit profile but after opening 3 accounts/letting them age 6 months I got an credit card offer from US BANK.. Im not looking for more credit so I never went through with the pre-approval.

Maybe try self lender... No hard pull after making on time payments.
