Can apartment rent in California be paid with credit card?

i use my online bill pay service with wells fargo to pay using my credit card account. there are no fees when i do this. payee may accept payment electronically or via paper check.

Here in Jersey, I'm given the option in certain apartment complexes to pay online, sans fee.

You just go online through the property management site and pay.

Fascinating. So you can pay anyone who accepts checks using your credit card account, and get rewards/points?

Scott: thanks for posting that.  That is interesting to the point of fanscinating as someone else alluded to.  It generally doesn't make sense to pay with a credit card from a rewards perspective and it'll do nothing for one's FICO score; however, goosing the monthly spend can make a non-trivial difference with approvals from some lenders (*cough* Amex).  There's a non-zero chance that if I were routinely spending $2200 through my cards instead of $1000, that it would actually be a make or break decision on a Zync in my current credit strata.

I'm just not going to open up a WF account just to go do that... I just checked BOFA and I only have access to pay from my checking account in their Bill Pay service.

^ It's the same way with Chase and Citibank, you can only bill pay out of your checking account. Chase does offer a similar service to WF, but there are fees involved that would negate any rewards.

Really, I was planning to take my first paycheck from my new (or old, hard to define when you're going back to work at a former employer) job and opening a Chase checking account and leaving BOFA after too many years in what I'm realizing is an abusive relationship with no long-term upside.  

What's the fee structure associated with Chase?  If I had access to any of Chase's credit products currently, and it were reasonable, I'd pay it happily (I have no issue with using my slush fund for silly FICO tricks) as monthly spend is a non-trivial factor for Amex which I'd absolutely like to get in 2012 rather than '13 or beyond.
