My scores are all over 760 and I can't get a decent card pre-approved to save my life! I do have a lot of inquiries over the past two years all my cards are relatively new, and they all have pretty meager starting limits. I understand I've been bucketedt hrough Capital One, so I've essentially given up on them. But just having put my feelers out with some pre-approvals, I'm not getting anything! Are the hard inquiries that detrimental to getting new Prime cards?! TransUnion I have eight inquiries, Equifax I have seven inquiries, and Experian I have 14 or 16 inquiries! Can I at least expect after a year or two of gardening, and not applying for any more lines of credit, that I'll start getting some prime card offers? I just don't understand with such strong scores, why I'm getting denied! I know there's a formula and the scores are only a part of it, but why I even have the credit scores to begin with? I'm only bringing in about 40K right now on unemployment. I work seasonally, some laid off for 4 months. During the season I make anywhere between 60 and $80,000. Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer, or insights. I really appreciate your time in having read this.
Post: my credit utilization is essentially zero. I'm currently doing the AZ E2 leaving very small balances. Last month I zeroed out and lost about 20 points across the board. I've since bounced back from that. Thanks
as you are finding out, there is more to your Report than just the Score of 760
the answer is Yes, to waiting for the Inq's to dropping off over the next 2 years, then having access to better cards
i think you should wait and use the ones you have, regularly asking for CLI on each one that is known to do an SP only
you dont really want any more INQ at this point
Yes, that's essentially my plan. I just didn't know it could be that detrimental, with such strong scores. So thank you, it's reassuring! I'm going to space out my credit limit increase requests, the requisite 6 months or whatever. I'll try to build that way, while waiting. Thanks again

I don't think so. I don't know for sure, but I wouldn't think you can be targeted, or not, for pre approvals with inquiries as a factor. What's your AAoA?
EDIT: was answering for the pre-approvals. A lot of inquiries would weigh on an application/ decision.
i believe another factor is that you are applying while on Unemployment - when it asks about your work status, how are you answering?
Aaoa? Sorry
Average Age of Accounts
definitely Chase, USBank and Citi care about recent accounts, and INQ quite a bit!
This is prior to me being unemployed. I've been putting in 70,000 which is about what I make when I'm working give or take. Speaking of which, I've heard a lot of people inflating their income. Is this a sound tactic? I've read that only Amex really checks. I've yet to put in a request for a new card, even a pre-approval, while collecting.
Ahhhhhhhh sorry, yeah. One year two months. My oldest card is only 2 years 9 months.
