Several days ago I hit the luv button on my cap 1 card and was denied a CLI. I was just reading over the letter from this most recent attempt and my EQ score from July had dropped down to 707. I don't recall what my overall util was at the time, but I only show 3 inqs. In any event I reviewed my credit report and saw that I have a HP inquiry from verizon from February 14th. I filed a dispute because I did not upgrade my phone until april, so there is no way I authorized verizon to do a HP prior to that as I wouldn't have even been in the store.
I have no idea what the chances are of the HP being removed from my credit report since it says its from Verizon east and gives an address of PA. I'm based in NY. This just serves as a reminder to stay on top of your credit reports because companies may be doing things without your knowledge that impacts your score and can cause denials.
Cap1 CLIs are soft pulls.
I never get any love from them either. Their most recent soft is from a while ago and when I ask them to check my reports again they act like they've never heard of a credit report before.
Pretty sure I'll be getting a denial letter soon as well. So tedious paying off low limit cards. If one accidently reports with $20 my util shoots up to 145% and the banks all get nervous.
Sounds like my fabulous renown World Elite MC BuyPower CC. A tank of gas or two and the Util goes thru the roof! ![]()

After over a year of working on my credit I am discovering the advice of people saying don't worry about your util unless your apping is not the best advice. I'm not doing anything crazy with high util, but what I am noticing is that when I finally go for sp cli lenders are relying on reports from a few months ago. Not so much an issue with HP apps and CLIs, but with SPs you end up having to pay attention to util like three months prior to your app/request in order to be on the safe side.

I really doubt that this HP from Verizon was a deal breaker for the CLI. Do you use the card? How much? For Discover and Cap1 I got successful with CLIs with the luv botton once I stopped that 0 balance reporting game. After use of my card "normally" - report the balance and pay after reporting it also worked for the luv botton/CLIs.
