I've been seeing this lately. If you ask for the upgraded QS card, is it a soft pull or will this be a hardpull? Because if a hp is the case, I'd rather wait for an app spree. Also is the Cap One Platinum considered a Prime card, or is it the QS card?
The Platinum card is considered lower tiered or subprime along with the QS1. Asking and/or receiving a PC from Cap One will not result in a hp or sp. If the account meets Cap One's criteria for an upgrade, they wil upgrade. I have no idea what the upgrade PC criteria is, My wife has tried to upgrade upgrade a 6 yr old account with no success.
Interesting. Last thing I want is a denial. But I guess it doesn't matter if it's neither. Might be worth a try. Okay so if they give me the QS1, will I still have the Platinum as well or do they automatically cancel it?
I believe Cap One will allow you to have 2 subprime cards. So if you apply and receive a QS1, you can keep your platinum account as well. At one point, I actually had three subprimes with them.
I was stuck with the platinum card with a $750 limit for 4 years. One day I got a quicksilver offer in the mail. I think I used online chat to tell the representetive I got a qs offer and would like a product change. Immediately got approved without any pull on credit.
So now I'm a bit confused still, because I thought the point was to get rid of subprime cards down the road. What would be the point of gaining a new subprime card if it's no better than the Platinum? I'm no CC genius so I'm learning the game steadily. ![]()
If you upgrade your Plat to a QS1 via a product change your account number and everything stays the same. They just add rewards and send you the QS cards. I just did this last month. If you prequal on their site and are approved for a QS and you apply for it that way, you will have a 2nd account.

I just did this yesterday and this morning. I have had the Plat MC and QS1 for 16 months or so, with CLI's along the way. I hit the luv button yesterday for a CLI on both, got $3000 CLI on each. Called this morning to PC Plat to QS with no AF. I will get a new QS1 card, same number as Plat account, CSR stated. From there,. when my payment I made today, clears to 0, I can combine my current QS1 into the new QS1, which has to be done online. I think that's how it went...

Yep, thats how it goes. I recently had my Plat PC'd to qa QS1. Once the new one is 6 months old I will combine them and hopefully get the QS with no AF. Then I want a Venture.
OK, I'm confused. My understanding was that when you PC'd a Platinum it became a standard QS, just a MC version of it and not a QS1. Otherwise what is the point of it if you'd have two QS1's and then you'd have two AFs as well?
