Cap One QS Mastercard VS Visa version

Is that CAP ONE QS VISA considered a better card than the CAP ONE QS MasterCard version? If so why? Interest the same or cheaper on the VISA?

I personally prefer the Visa logo, but I am stuck with the Master card QS card at 6k limit...

I have both, so I can provide my own experience.  "Better" is always subjective, but rewards-wise they are identical.  My QS MasterCard actually has a lower APR than my higher-limit QS Visa Signature, but I get balance transfer offers on the Visa that I don't get on the MasterCard.

In my case, the MasterCard is nine years old, so I will be keeping it around now that it has been upgraded to a 'regular' QS with no AF.

Re: Cap One QS Mastercard VS Visa version

If you product change to a QS and not a QSO than they are the same, meaning no annual fee (most of the time, some people have the fee) but the Mastercard, even If you get a world or even get invited to the WEMC will never beat the VISA on APR stance because capone rarly lowers the APR on them. It's kinda a choice thing of you leave out intrest, I never use my visa because Sam's doesn't accept Visa so as I do a majority of shopping there it works better for me. If you get them to change a MC to a Visa let us know because I don't think they will, BUT YMMV.

UncleB, was the APR one of those older CAP One cards that had like 10% back in...the golden age???

Yes, it is an older account (nine years old) and started out as a HSBC account.  I'll also add that as late as last year Capital One was still offering a low-APR 'Platinum' MasterCard (with no AF) to folks with good credit, so you're likely to see quite a few of them around with low APRs, although most folks with them who are on this board will have changed it to a QS by now.

That was actually my 'plan' at first... get the Platinum with a lower APR and no-AF, and eventually change it to a QS for the rewards (and keep the low rate), but I didn't act fast enough.  Now they only offer the 'Platinum' to folks who are building/rebuilding, and it has a high APR.

Also, just a note, as of February 1, Sam's Club takes Visa in the brick-and-mortar stores now.  Smiley Wink

I actually didn't know call one gave anything lower than the 13% on the visa in the past few years, you learn something new every day! And sadly my Sam's Club in BOTH Bloomington and Champaign IL, since I travel for work.. still do no accept Visa Smiley Sad I just tried on the 18th on accident, grabbed the wrong quicksilver. I wish they took visa! Even though double cash and the QSWMC are my two dailys both being Mastercard, I have 15 visa and only 2 mastercards. LOL Smiley Happy

I don't want to de-rail this thread from the discussion on Capital One MasterCard and Visa cards, but you might want to verify the card acceptance policy with the service desk at the Sam's Club locations you shop at, since it's even on the Sam's Club website that they now take Visa, which presumably applies to all of their locations.

I'm not saying your experiences didn't happen, just that you might want to check with somebody else.  It would be a shame for you to not be able to use your preferred payment method simply due to a cashier's ignorance.

Re: Cap One QS Mastercard VS Visa version

I actually did it on self checkout and it denied it, hmmm, this is a very intrest in development that I will call and bring to light because the automated system may not have been updated! Thank you very much!!

Also, OP I am sorry we kinda did derail it! I apologize! And I do hope more people put a little more info, because from what I've been told they will NOT lower my apr from 21.99% BUT as UncleB pointed out older cards with the orignal lower intrest and the older platinum can have the apr lowered as well as a overall lower apr, cap one is a tricky beast with all there rules!

You also could ask Visa Sig benefits versus World Mastercard or even by invite WEMC!

+1

I actually use the self-checkout as well, and so far it's worked with no glitches at my local store, so maybe it was an update thing?  In any case, I hope it works out for you soon!  Smiley Wink

Back to Capital One... you're exactly right about them not lowering APRs... a few folks have reported getting a reduction from the EO, but honestly that's just too much hassle for me, especially now that you can simply get a new account with a lower APR, and then combine the old one into it.

The best I've ever got was an offer to reduce my APR by a few percentage points for six months, but I turned it down since I usually PIF.  Interestingly, the CSR suggested that at the end of the period the reduction would likely be available again, so if you don't mind calling twice a year you might be able to get an ongoing promo, so to speak.

In my opinion, that's the one major area Capital One falls short... but it's mostly a nuisance.  Other than that I'm generally pleased with them.  Smiley Very Happy

UncleB, j/c, are you referring to Cap1's former low-APR "Platinum Prestige" product, that they are no longer offering?  Also does anyone know if it is still possible to PC to it, even though it is no longer offered on Cap1's website?
