Cap one no-go

So,

I am trying to re-build my credit and a few years ago I cancelled my only card, in good standing, to avoid paying fees to Cap One.  I reapplied today and got turned down... now what?

Should I apply with someone else, or should I get a secured card?

The card may have been in good standing when you closed it, but what does the history on it look like?

Have you added any new baddies to your CRs since you got the first Cap1 card?

Re: Cap one no-go

It had been ok for a year.  No baddies in about 3 or 4 years since... but no "goodies" either.  Nothing, no missed payments, no cards (i've been living with bank debit cards only).

Did you try any credit unions in your area?

Re: Cap one no-go

Check with other cu in your area. Most have other requirements for membership besides who you work for. Such as what city/county you live in or what group you belong to. It might help to tell them that you have not had any credit for several years before you apply. That way if they tell you that they will not be able to help you unless you currently have credit you do not waste an inquiry.
