Re: Cap1 GW success?

After I got Capital One to remove my 1 30 day late on my credit report with a phone call, I decided I would see if Chase CC would do the same. Same one late payment back in Feb 2005. They declined saying they couldn't do it because of some Federal Banking regulation bs. I told her that Capital One did it. But she wouldn't budge. Not surprised, Chase has been very difficult to deal with. I have been trying for 3 months to get lower interest rate after they rate jumped me prior to my one late payment since 2003. I am having the last laugh because I took one of their rate jumping credit card down to $0 in July and it is in the sock drawer. The other Chase is down to under 35% and will be to $0 by December and it will join the other one. I would not recommend anyone getting a Chase card.

Figures.  I just was approved for their Freedom CC.  Now I am reading bad things on this forum about them.  As usual, day late and a dollar short.

Re: Cap1 GW success?

Chase may be ok, but I am not alone in having my initial low interest card rate jumped. It wasn't because of anything I did wrong. They said it was due to a credit report they ran periodically. Yeah right! I wouldn't get too cozy with Chase....keep them on a short leash. Just a word to the wise.

Re: Cap1 GW success?

Thanks for the advice.

The one thing I am amazed at is how many times CC companies soft you during the month.  AMEX softs me 2 or 3 times a month, Hooters at least 2 times, Cap 1 two times on average, and Juniper a couple times a month.  The only one that has not yet is WaMu.

I suppose all companies now are looking for that opportunity to stick it to you.

Re: Cap1 GW success?

I started off with a Cust Serv Rep, told them that I had some late payments back in 2003 and if they would consider removing them from my credit report.  This person transferred me to someone else, I guess a supv. and I made the same statement, told her I was about to apply for a mortgage and it would help my score if these late payments were removed, she must have been in a good mood because she just looked at my payment history and said sure no problem.  As far as the other card, formerly providian, I was told that their system didn't have info that went that far back so therefore they couldn't be reporting the lates, I disputed the lates and that's how they dropped off.  The credit union I belong to I guess they just didn't bother since I have had and paid off a loan and a car note with them since 2003.

Re: Cap1 GW success?

Jaust that is so uncanny, I had a Providian that reported late and they didnt have my account information anymore so they advised they would remove all references of the account as well. As a matter of fact that's the only successful GW I have so far (1 for 3)

It must be fate! I'll call and see what they say.

Thanks again for clarifying!

Re: Cap1 GW success?

Well I got a letter back from Capital One today.  No joy.  They won't GW the account, and indeed have started reporting it as currently in charge off (Oh yes, paid of course but current).
Well I suppose there is always next month, another copy of the GW letter and a stamp.
Anyone have perhaps a better address to try?

Re: Cap1 GW success?

**bleep** I just sent mine to cap1 this week and it aint soundin good so far, i guess ill just call if it doesnt work by paper.

I truly think the calling thing is the way to go though becuase I made a bunch of calls yesterday and people were willing to do stuff right over the phone. Some required me to send in a formal letter and said they would do it, but when I checked my report today it had already been done.
