Cap1 pre qualifier question

I have a Cap1 QS1 card that won't grow. I've noticed a lot of members have multiple cap1's with a view to combine to a larger limit.

Do you usually accept the pre qualifier offer presented by cap1 or do you tend to hold out for a better offer in the future?

As it stands, I'm pre approved for the Cap1 Platinum, and "I may also be interested in the QS1," which I already have.

What's your game plan with Cap1 pre approved offers?

Re: Cap1 pre qualifier question

To be honest, I cold app'd for my QS1.  The pre-qualification page doesn't show me anything at this time and hasn't ever.

If your scores and profile seem like they'd support one of the Visa products and you're willing to take the triple hit, go for it.  If you've gotten a prequalification on one of the MasterCard products, you're generally speaking pretty golden for any of the MasterCard products (or a Journey, but that's not necessarily worth it because the QS1 has better rewards, unless you're playing the long game to get a Journey to turn into a QS and again, many many people are able to upgrade QS1s to QS MasterCards so that's personal preference).

The only thing I will say is, generally speaking, Cap One only allows 2 'average credit' cards (Plat, QS1, Journey and Secured) and 5 cards total so if you're at the limit I'd save the inquiries because even though some people can get more than that I've been turned down for having the maximum number of accounts before.

Edited to add: if you're wanting to get cards to combine into one account, I'd say a Plat would fit the bill, just get as many CLIs as you can before you combine them (usually one around the 3rd month and then Credit Steps) so you can max out your credit line.  Since a Plat doesn't have an annual fee it's not a terrible way to get at least some sort of a credit line boost into the card you want, as long as you're willing to take the triple inquiry hit and the new account hit.
