I'm just speculating, but this may be due to the fact that you're dealing with a very large financial institution. They have lots of money already, and while they intend to collect from you, they're not cutthroat vigilantes about it.... simply because they know they have the resources at their disposal to make your life a living parody if you don't come clean on your own.
Always be prepared going in to a situation, maybe not with a script, but at least with a direction. Call them back, and make your offer. Try to barter a little bit in your direction and without being rude make it seem a little like you've got your feet cemented... but be ready to work with them towards the ultimate goal: getting out of this with as little collateral damage as possible.
Is this a charge off account?
Yes. it is a charged off account. Called again and apparently that woman is now on my account. Anyway, they DONT take CC,Debit cards but do take checks mailed and Western union. She said once paid, she will update the report stating Paid in Full with a 0 balance. But she said it could take up to 60 days for the CU to update it.
Do you think they would come after you if you really left the country? She probably knew you were lying.
Starting Score: 648please be carefull when doing this as i wish the best for you. i had the same thing happen to me back in 2005 with cap one. my bank told me i needed to have the cap one account closed well it had been 4 yrs since cap one so i called and owed 800 something well turned out they sold it and it went through 3 CA's even though cap one was the only one reporting it on my account. needless to say nothing got done and i never got the house because of this. are you sure cap one does indeed still own the debt?
