Capital One Mailers

In the last two weeks Iapi have received five mailers from Capital One products.

Two walmart master card prequalified offers

Three Capital One regular  master card prequalified offers.

The walmart offers say that I will not be approve for less than $300.

The regualar capital one master card offers say increase your limit after six monthly payments. All cards offer 26.99 percent apr. I was once interested in the capital one offers, but now I do not think they are a good fit for me so I will pass on them.

I am curious of what others think of these offers, and how others and use them as a stepping stone.

Do you currently have all secured cards (as per your sig)?  If you only have the 3 secured cards and no unsecured, I would recommend going for a Capital One Platinum.  It can be upgraded to a Quicksilver in the future, but just keep in mind, that card will be bucketed for life.  As for using that as a stepping stone, I definitely would if this would be your first unsecured card.  Good thing is it doesn't have an AF.

Re: Capital One Mailers

I'd hold out for better cards. If I were you I'd keep the prequalification pages on Disco and AMEX until you start getting some offers. Capital One cards at that level are just high interest, low limit sock drawing liners.

Our credit card journey started 3/2018

Hover over cards to see limits and usage. Total CL - $608,600. Cash Back and SUBs earned as of 5/31/24- $21,590.43

Unfortunately, it might be a necessary step.  With scores in the 600's, the preapprovals probably won't be coming.

My sig says I received 3 of 3 secure cards. That was last year in July 2020 with $1,200 cl. Sig shows update in April of 2021l of 3 secure credit cards, 1 unsecure cc 1 ssl total cl of $4,200.

I have 3 secure cards and 1 unsecure credit card at this time. I have been very patient to get the right cards. Really hoping to make the next  jump in the next few months. I might consider applying for a second nfcu card.

Amex some said gave me a pretty good offer. Not a pre approval but show which cards I meet their criteria. Disco, only approves me for their secure card. July will make my 1 year anniversary for all the secure cards. I wanted to start removing them for a non secure card. I plan to replace one a every two months here moving forward. I will probably keep the open sky forever.

My scores are not moving up anymore they are stuck where they are i think I gain a point each month then lose it the next month. Very strange, but that only means I have more work to do.

Re: Capital One Mailers

You'd be surprised at what you'd get approved for given the right profile. I had a preapproval for my Chase United Explorer card with a 646 EX8.

I would hold off on applying for Amex.  If they were to approve you, it may be with a $1k limit.  I've heard that limits that low are difficult to get higher.  Capital One Platinum would be my next move if I were in your shoes.

Re: Capital One Mailers

I started with Amex at $1k, it definitely grows.
