Capital One PC Question

Hi everyone

I have an old Cap One Platinum Mastercard (first card I ever opened, 12 years old) and a Quicksilver that I've had for 7 years. When I go online they offer me a PC change for my platinum to another Quicksilver card.

So a few questions:

1) If I PC the platinum do I keep the same account open date? I don't want a PC to mess up my credit age.

2) Is it possible to get cap one to offer me another card? (savor one? venture?) for reference I have an 817 tu and Equifax. What's the best way to go about getting this change?

3) If not, do they really hand out 2 of the same card to someone? What is the purpose of that?

Re: Capital One PC Question

1) it's the same card, they just add the rewards structure.

2) yes, you can choose another card, you just have to call in and ask if there are any offers. I chose QS, my wife chose venture one. Savors are off limits at this time.

3) you can have 2 sub-prime and 5 prime cards. They can all be the same if you want them to be and qualify for them. There are other issuers, like amex, that will allow you to have more than one of a same card. Typically, when people have more than one, they're going for the sub and end up combining cards down the road. Currently, cap1 is not combining cards.

Re: Capital One PC Question

1) Yes, you keep the account history

2) Call customer service and have them check to see if you have a PC to another card other than QS to change it to. Note that the rep has no control over whether you qualify/get one or not, the computer tells them what they can and can't do.

3) They don't know that you already have a QS on hand the computers just tell you that's your option if you want to change.
