Capital One Platinum Upgrade

For the past few years I've been trying to get my Capital One Platnium card upgrade and credit limit increased but kept getting denied due to low usage.  Started as a secure card.  I had $600 limit at one point and put about 2k spend on it for a couple months paying it off and charging it again due to the low limit. I finally got an increase to $1500 and continued a couple months to get it where it's at now at $3600.  Haven't used it since.  Each time I try and upgrade it I get the no upgrade available through the app and online. I can upgrade my Savoir to a good Venture card with no welcome offer but that's a bad deal. I have two car loans and use them for banking. I'm in good standing and  pay in full every month.

Today on my way to work I got an email asking to upgrade my Platnium to a Quicksilver which I accepted. Went to the app prior to accepting and there was no upgrade showing.  Hopeful I can upgrade it to a Venture card next.

I've seen numerous posts saying it's impossible to get credit limit increases, convert from a secure to a regular card or upgrade a bucketed card.  Just wanting to let some know it's possible.

Congrats on the Upgrade/ Product Change. How long did you have your Platinum card open before you got the email?

Re: Capital One Platinum Upgrade

Got the card in March of 2020. I've maybe put five dollars on it this year.  I want the VentureX card but all capital one wants to approve me for is the good cards with no welcome offer. And no preapproval for the Venture X. Assuming because I have 16 cards with a lot of inquiries. A good portion are business cards.  Most limits are about 20k.

Good for you, I would’ve given up after spending so much on a no reward card. Congratulations

Re: Capital One Platinum Upgrade

Your C1 story reads almost word for word as mine…substitute account open since 2010, beginning cl $500, and current cl $3500 on upgraded Quicksilver. I have never had any lates report. I have 19% DTI. A 29 year credit history on one bureau and 15 years on the other two. AAoAAs is 6'ish. Perfect credit mix of mort, personal loan, auto paid off, cards. I have no derogatories. I run about $18,000 a year through this card. All 3 Fico's are between 710 and 743. I make $102,000+/yr. Even if I lose my job, I have $3k/month passive income...my nut is covered. I currently have $29k on credit cards and am at 47% utilization. My net worth is in the $500k-$600k range. My financial picture is great except the $29k on credit cards. I cannot get a credit limit increase out of these jokers to save my life. I'm on project "Clean Slate" to hold zero debt...when my scores are much higher and enviable, I will be anxious to see how they proceed at that point. For now, I'm just steeping in my pool of discontent and silently cursing them. If they still refuse at that point to give a limit increase, I will keep it open but only use it once in a while rather than giving them $18,000 worth of swipe fees every year. My Amex BCP is my gas and grocery card, my Williams Sonoma is my dining and second level grocery card, my other cards are non rewards that don't get used except for the balance transfers they currently hold.  I'm paying them all down even though I still have 0% time remaining. The object is to get out of debt, not just hold 0% debt.
