I finally did what everyone had suggested and closed my secured Capital One card after 6 years. Sad to see it go but I have racked up quite a bit on my 0% Freedom Unlimited and the deposit is definitely going to help me pay down my card. I'm only sad because I really wanted to see the card get graduated but all research seems to indicate that it simply won't.
So while I hate that everything is automated at Capital One...they made it crazy easy to close an account online and for that I am grateful. When CLI's, upgrades, approvals, denials are all automated...it kind of lacks the personal touch that is associated with good customer service.
They gave me the key to the credit world (with a deposit) and let me flourish. My scores got as high as 780...thanks to starting out with this card. I just don't understand the logic of letting someone grow their credit with you and then not offering them better service as they become a customer with great credit scores and a great relationship. I will not take a triple-pull for any of their cards that are rivaled or outlclassed by other cards in their category. They ultimately lost what could have been a customer by having all of these policies that work against each other. I am just a number to them and I'm fine with that. They served their purpose.
Anyone know how long until I get my deposit? I see anywhere from 6 business days to over 2 months on the forums.
We can only speculate, if you want a more solid answer, I would simply call them.
You have way way more will power than me......I could only imagine what a venture CL you would get. I'm way to curious. 😂LOL

After getting a home loan, a HELOC, and a new credit card in the past 2 months...my scores are now...well...all the way down to ~720 range. ![]()
I really should just garden for at least another 6 months until the shock wears off. Although, I must say, I am now flooded with even more credit card offers via USPS than ever before. Especially from Discover. My goodness I wish they'd stop...I already have Freedom...I don't need Discover.

Precisely the same thing happened to me; fairly certain a new mortgage tradeline is one of their marketing triggers heh.
Was recycling unopened envelopes of all sorts of colors... only stopped when I opened up a Disco secured card for silly FICO purposes.

I have gotten the regular one, purple, and now green. They're all really lovely and I saved the latest one for a few days because it made me feel good but I eventually threw it away. That and their friendliness towards thin profiles is why I made my sister choose BCE and It for her first cards. I am all in on Chase, I suppose, so I don't have a need for "it" (pun intended).
I don't understand their logic at all! We see you've accumulated several thousands of dollars in debt...would you like more credit to help you accumulate more? Lol.
My wife and I closed ours on the same day and I want to say the checks came in within 2 weeks tops.

But it's the type of debt: a house is an asset, and being a mortgage holder you are automagically promoted out of possible deadbeat land because they can always pursue a judgement and get that attached to your house.
Renters have alll sorts of easier times evading that if they really want to, it's hard to take a house with you and it's a tangible asset that's easily found unlike cars, bank accounts, and money in a mattress.

For the last 2 years, I've had my mortgage and rent (worked in another state, hence the rent for an apartment. With the way the market is and my love for my city, I didn't sell my home. Also, I knew one day, I would return there full time). My mortgage does not report to any CB.
