They both seem to do the job and have the same benefits, so...why is the the Venture card more popular? I guess Capital one has a great marketing team!
I went on nerdwallet.com to compare both cards, the only difference I noticed was with the sign up bonus, which was a little higher for the venture card. But that's it.

Can someone give a good reason why one should sign up for the CapitalOne venture card, other than because it's more popular?
I think it's a combination of marketing and being the first to the market.
If I had a choice (I did not at the time I signed up for Venture), I would probably go with BoA, only because you can use your rewards to pay for part of a travel expense. Capital One only allows you to use points if it will cover the entire expense (except for airline tickets, where you can apply funds to one leg of the trip).
The Venture card has a $59 AF for 2%, versus $0 AF for various 1.5% travel and cashback cards.
The breakeven point here is around $1000/month spending, which is pretty steep.
Depending on your spending habits:
the Amex Blue Sky gives you 1.33 points per dollar
OR
Blue Sky Prefered gives you $100 airline incidential statement credit and 2.66 points per doller on restaurants. All for a low $75 annual fee.

I have the venture card and have been very happy with the initial credit line and subsequent soft pull credit line increase. I had multiple really horrible experiences with BoA in the past as a customer (granted the problem was with the retail bank vs their credit cards), but I refuse to do business with them all the same because it was the absolutely worst I was ever treated by a bank. I think the Barclays arrival card may be worth a look.
I actually thougt there would be more people defending their capital One Venture card.
Friend is trying to convince me that there is something special about this card since most people go for it.
Red- I believe the Barclay Arrival card has an annual fee-

there's the no AF arrival card for barclay...sign up bonus for the AF version is 40K points, or 400 bucks
