Capital One said no to merging two cards

I have two in-house credit cards with them (technically three, but I'm not counting holding cards, because I also have a Best Buy -Capital One- Rewards MasterCard) I really do not want to manage two accounts with theme. Called Capital One today to ask if I could combine both accounts, and the nice lady said "no".

Both are "Platinum MasterCards", both received a recent CLI - one with a $1,500 limit and the other $1,250. Why don't they let you merge the two cards together? I have not a clue, it's not like their exposure would change

oh bummer Smiley Sad I guess I may eventually close the newer/lower limit card

They gave me the same answer a month or two ago when I asked about combining cards. I know have 4 with them since the HSBC changeover.

You're right. It doesn't make any sense. Smiley Frustrated

I was told the same thing.  I hate having to manage cards that look alike, so I haven't been using them.

Re: Capital One said no to merging two cards

Yes unfortunately CAP1 does not merge cards or allow moving limits aroundSmiley Sad

Before you app think...
Have you done your research of the CC?
Does it fit your spending?
Do you have a plan for the bonus w/o going into debt?
Can you afford the AF?
Do you know the cards benefits? Is it worth the HP?

I had the same Response from them, They said no to Merging, No to CLI, No to PCing the Cards to something with no AF, They did however waived the AF for the year,  but ultimately I closed them both. IMHO they are good to rebuild but once you are past that stage, you should move on.  I fortunately have some good cards now and very low Utilization so I closed them both. Felt great by the way Smiley LOL

I also had the AF's waived for this year, but they did actually give me CLI's (one account had been stuck for 6 years!)

Haven't tried to PC yet, but that's next on my garden to-do list. I just have to figure out which one I want to keep - if any. I'm planning on closing at least 2, maybe 3. Will be nice to get rid of them, I bet it did feel great. I'm looking forward to that myselft!

Re: Capital One said no to merging two cards

I was very disappointed on learning this as well. I really don't need 2 CapOne cards, but even when I told them what I had wanted at opening and how I ended up with two cards after the PC rep told me I would get denied the second card, I still wasn't allowed to combine the two cards. Only good thing is that the same pull was used for both cards somehow. So I'm just playing the two cards off another (2% on travel for NC, 1.5% on everything QS) and will combine the cash back - since I can at least do that - to gain benefits while I work my way to better cards.

For some reason they said No to my CLI request, I figured after 3 years with never a late or over the limit they would hook it up , but nah, they didn't. I was stuck at $750.00 for 3 years.... Closing them indeed felt great.... I feel like after the long Journey of repairing my Credit after a Horrible Divorce 10 years ago, I have accomplished my Credit Goals and I don't need them anymore. Don't get me wrong I do appreciate what the did when no one else would, but they are just so difficult and stingy to deal with, that IMHO I'm better off without them.......Smiley Happy
