Let it go. And be happy you are at a place in your life that paying a $12k bill is no problem.
I have over 20 cards, from many different banks, and while they tend to close on the same day each month, that is just a tendency. It can move by 1, 2, 3 days. You would be better off paying it 5 days ahead, and not get hung up on whether your AZEO Card reports $10 or $300 on that $30k CapOne Card. Congrats on the nice limit, as well.
It's best to pay your credit cards a few days before the due date rather than on the due date itself or (worse yet) on the statement closing date. The reality is that banks adjust their schedules to take into account weekends and holidays, so the statement closing dates sometimes move around. If you want to guarantee a zero statement balance, switch your spending to a different card for a few days.
As far as I've been able to tell, Capital One has closed consistently for me at the close of business on the statement date. I've seen Chase and Barclays do it both ways, though.
With Capital One, I'm comfortable paying the day before the statement cuts or two days before if a Sunday is involved. Both would be before the close of business, of course. But if I'm going to advise someone else, I'd suggest a couple of days cushion.
@Anonymous, please let us know what your score ding turns out to be. I'd be surprised if it's as much as 50 points this time around.
It likely closed early due to the closing date falling on a Sunday. It happened to me before.Normally i can pay mine down on the statement date and it post. This is assuming it doesn’t fall on a Sunday of course.

Well I just spoke to Capital One about why they closed statement a day before. The CSR mentioned there were no pending transactions and their systems decided to close EOD on the 2nd because there was nothing to post. First time I heard that. Could that be? He also said it had nothing to do with the closing date being on a Sunday.
I'll be more careful going forward. I usually pay down the day of closing and the payment posts the same day. Hate that I messed up a perfect AZEO streak. No biggie. Thanks to all for your suggestions!
Your right, it's no biggie.
In the 15mos I've had CapOne, only the 2nd month had a balance... 14mos, no balance... statement close date has always been the 2nd, due date 27th. Even months that had no activity, always the same close & due dates.
That said, I always make sure of close & due dates on all of my cards. Amex does change dates, but it's not a problem.

Capital One won't typically honor off cycle reporting so dont waste ya time. Your balance will be updated by the next statement cycle. However if u contacted ER they might be able to pull the strings but there has to be a justifiable reason why you need such. If it's mortgage related they may approve at their discretion.
