Capital One - won't raise limit with score of 750?

I've spent a long time rebuilding my credit, and I thank Capital One for giving me a card when my credit score was crap.  They gave me a $1,000 limit, and my question is, why will they not raise it with my score at 750, and no derogatories left on my credit report?  My usage sits around 30% but that is only because I made a large purchase of new appliances at Lowes, and I am paying that off.  Any tips or tricks to get them to raise the limit?  I like having their card, the rewards are decent, but with a $1,000 limit, the card is not very useful.

My monthly spending entails maybe $800-$1500 for work, that I expense, and then all my personal bills.  I also have a NFCU rewards card with a $10,500 limit that I use more.  I pay off all my credit card accounts in full every month, and in the 7 years I've had Capital One, I've never paid a cent in interest...which may be why they don't like me.

If anyone has a backdoor phone or email, I just want to get the credit up to maybe $3,500 so that I can use it, without worries of going over my limit.

Thanks!

Yeah, this comes up occasionally with Cap One. For some reason, if you get a card while you're rebuilding, it almost never gets above a certain limit. It's like you're locked in the lower limit tier despite your improvement. The best course of action is to apply for another account, then combine the limits later if you don't want two cards.

One of the posters on here ABCD actually has a very informative post on this very topic using Capital One has an example. It's pretty solid and I think definitely worth a read:

I do not have a Capital One card, however have seen many post where others have had this same issue. Many have applied for another card with them and the new card had good CL.

I do not like C1's  triple pull, and would personally get a "Citi-DC" or "FNBO-2% Cashback Visa", and just put minimum spend on the C1 every 3 months.

Glass ceiling  on acct that was opened with low score.

check prequal.  If preq you should get 10k - 30k with 750, good income, and good cap one history.

Rebuild started in 2014  -  $100k unsecured credit in 2017  -  $500k unsecured credit in 2024.

Re: Capital One - won't raise limit with score of 750?

My card isn't a secured card, so I would think it would grow.  I'm not really interested in another card with them.  I have my NFCU rewards card, and a BOA card which I used to balance transfer some wedding expenses so I can pay them over a year without interest.  It seems like I earn more rewards with my Capital One, but if the limit is stuck low, it's pretty useless.

Re: Capital One - won't raise limit with score of 750?

I started like many people on here with the Cap one rebuilder cards.  I had a Platinum and QS1 that both started with 300 limits back in January of 2015.   I used them for everything,  every utility that would take them, groceries, etc.  Heck, I even got some family members to give me the cash and used my card to pay their bills.

Anyway,  I built those two cards to 9k and 7k in two years before combining them.  I think it takes lots and lots of use, along with score growth.  Because there were a couple times that my cli were denied because of low score.

If you really don't want another card.  Use heavy, heavy, heavy and pay off in big payments.  Try your best to not carry a balance.

Might take a few months of this but it should start growing.  If not, then getting another card and combining later might be your only option.

Hope this idea helps and works for you.

Capital One likes paying in full. Wait a few weeks after paying off your appliances, and I think your chances of a CLI will improve.

You have been given the answer to solve your problem.

If you are prequal, you will get a large limit on a new card and maybe even a sign up bonus.

There is no magic number to call.

Search "Capital One Buckets."

Every time I received a large limit card from Capital One it was after a CLI denial.

7 years at 1k means that card is bracketed. If you have to work that hard at getting an increase its my belief its time to move to another card. Not all cards are created equal nor lenders. The options presented are good ones. Ive learned that not all 750's are created equal either. You could have a 750 but if your income isnt great , it could mean nothing to a lender. I should know lol, experience this alotSmiley Wink
