Capital one New behavior

I have a capital one card $500 Limit that I received in March 0AF and 9.9%. My account is "enrolled" in the credit steps. Today is the 3rd statement cut day, I was thinking of calling the backdoor number after the 3rd statement for a CLI before the auto CLI hits.

I used this card moderately, First month usage around $108, second $85 and the Third just cut for $70.

Just checked my statement and I see that I got a auto CLI to $750 on my **3rd statement cut**.

Is this new behavior of Cap1 to counter people who got CLI before the credit step CLI?

or should I call the backdoor number anyway?

I already got the auto CLI on my third statement.

Re: Capital one New behavior

My cap 1 started at 3k, I called before the 3rd statement for a CLI and they took it to 3750.  About a week later I received 500 for credit steps, taking it to 4250.

That card turns 6 months old in July -- and I'll call again!

Congrats on the CLI!

Re: Capital one New behavior

I opened the card in Jan (around the 12th) and the first statement cut immediately.  I asked for a CLI on March 23rd, then noticed the credit steps CLI a week later, but before the April 12th statement cut.  The credit steps message (below) appeared on my April 12th statement.  Yes, this was technically my 4th statement.

"Congratulations on your credit line increase! By successfully completing your Capital One Credit Steps, you've earned a credit line increase. You can put this new purchasing power to work for you right away. We look forward to providing even more products and services to meet your needs in the future. (Credit Steps is a service mark of Capital One.)"

Hope that helps!

Re: Capital one New behavior

They didn't do that with my card. I opened my account about 4 months ago with an initial CL of $500. Immediately after my third payment cleared, I called the backdoor number and requested a CLI. They bumped my CL up to $1000. So far (4 months out), I still haven't received the auto CLI of $750; I'm expecting it within the next couple of weeks, though.

But to answer your question directly: they never gave me the auto CLI on the third stataement cut. I had to request it.

Yeah This is what i was planning to do, ask for CLI after the 3rd statement and then auto CLI will give me another CLI. BUT they gave me Auto CLI on the 3rd statement cut, I called them to give another CLI was denied due to a recent CLI. bummer, I missed the boat.

Re: Capital one New behavior

Hmm, wonder what I should do.  More than 3 payments have posted (I am running more than my CL through the card each mo, so need to make multiple payments), 2 statements have cut.  Cap 1 said I’d get a credit steps after 3 statements/3 mos.

Should I even bother asking for a CLI (and should I do it now?) or just wait for credit steps to kick in and hope they auto CLI me regularly?  my ficos have improved significantly (100 pts) since I originally applied.  Despite the knocks cap1 sometimes take, I appreciate them as I burned them in the past and they gave me a 2nd chance.  Plus, once my credit steps hits, i'll be able to FIRE first premier.  lol sad that such a CLI enables you to fire 1 cc, but that's what happens when you're in subprime land.
