Just to clarify, with Capital One 'Platinum' is a card type (no rewards), while it's also a MC/Visa designation. These are two separate things.
Any card that's not a WMC, WEMC, or Signature is a 'Platinum' MC/V by default; this has nothing to do with the Capital One rewards scheme.
At one time the Capital One Platinum card was a no-rewards, low APR offering, but more recently it's a no-rewards average/high APR offering for those who are starting out or rebuilding.
It is possible to upgrade a 'Platinum' (Cap One designation) to a rewards card (QS, Savor, etc.) with it still remaining a 'Platinum' network designation. I have this with my own Savor Platinum MasterCard.
Historically Capital One usually doesn't do network upgrades (from Plat to WEMC/WMC or Signature) on request, however some have reported unsolicited/targeted upgrades. It's not known what drives these; my own speculation is that it may be related to usage.
When people on here talk about upgrading a Capital One Platinum card, they are almost always referring to upgrading the Platinum product type to one with rewards (unless they specify otherwise, of course).
Stupid question but how would I know if it is either a WMC or WEMC? Where would it say?
Have only recently PC'd to the QS so I haven't gotten first QS statement yet. Will update when I do.

Not a stupid question at all...
On the newer Capital One cards it's on the back near the logo; if it's 'World' or 'World Elite' that will be printed somewhere near the MasterCard logo (and for WEMC the logo itself will usually be silver instead of red/orange).
If the card is Platinum it might say nothing, or it might say 'Platinum' (I've had one of each... my most recent card says 'Platinum').

@UncleB I see what you’re saying, but going off of that wouldn’t it mean that the bucket list doesn’t exist? If my Platinum was PCd to a Quicksilver and the Platinum is simply a network moniker, then does that mean I am, in fact, getting the proper Quicksilver background benefits? Sorry if there’s any confusion.
Capital One 'buckets' are a real thing, but it's not as cut-and-dry as some try to make it.
Case-in-point, my own Savor started off as an Orchard Bank/HSBC 'Platinum' MasterCard with a $300 credit line; it's now a Savor with a $5900 credit line. My CLI requests on this card are now (usually) turned down due to insufficient usage - which is true. While the credit line will likely not get much higher (without combining) if I were to start using it more I suspect there would still be some growth.
If you have a card that is PC'ed to a Quicksilver, it's "really" a Quicksilver regardless of the network level (Plat/WMC/WEMC/Signature). There are some MC/V benefits that are slightly enhanced by a higher network level, but for most people it's not that important.
@UncleB
Got it. Thanks. I was too tired to grab my wallet last night and look but checked this morning and it does have "World" printed on the back but does not say Platinum anywhere.

Each time I would call into Cap1 about PCing my QS1 to a QS the CSR would refer to my card as a platinum card. I suspect that internally, the differences between platinum, world and world elite, this means something.
People might think that the QS or QS1 was not "real" and only a platinum card because even though I would refer to my card as a QS1 the CSR continued to refer to it as a platinum card.

Once I receive my first statement (should be in another 2 weeks) I will update the post

@BTO Just to confirm: on your statements does it say “World MasterCard Ending in ****” or “Platinum MasterCard...”? Also, did they ever mention it was a World MasterCard upgrade or was it simply done at the same time as the PC to QS? Thanks.

I received my first statement since product change to QS and wanted to update this thread accordingly. No where in my statement does it say or indicate "Platinum." It states "World Mastercard Account Ending in xxxx."
Regarding you other question about them mentioning a "World Mastercard Upgrade" I have no recollection of ever receiving an email indicating said upgrade and my previous statements all say "Platinum Mastercard Ending in xxxx." So... I assume it happened at the same time.
