I got this card fully intending to use it a lot to support my outdoorsey addictions. I ended up not really using it much because I didn't like being tied to HAVING to purchase from Cabela's at their prices.
So... After 5 years of non-use, they're finally warning me to use it or lose it! I have no need for it... so I'll likely contact them and cancel it just so I can the "closed by account holder" memo.

Wow, 5 years, typically they shut down after 2. I would just cancel it if you dont plan to use it, stays on record up to 10 years post close.
Or use it once and and try
to stretch it out another 5 years...
Had no idea they did this. I have one and it's my oldest card but only have a $500 limit on it. I've been contemplating closing it because I never use it (again because of the $500 limit) but afraid to screw up my credit age.

Your credit age does not get screwed up by closing a card. A closed card still factors in up to 10 years or more.

Wow is right! And they gave OP a heads-up too.
I had thought about putting a charge on it just to keep it alive, but it's only a $1,000 card. No auto-luv ever, and always denied when I requested a CLI.
I have more than enough cards open. It might ding my Credit Karma score a smidge because it would lower my AAOA, but it'll not effect my actual FICO at all.

Out of curiosity, do you live in California, @Dalmus?

No sir. Wisconsin born and bred.
I do have family out there, though.

Ok, thank you! (I asked because CA is one of the few states that requires a CC company to let a customer know a card may be closed for non use.)
