Okay, so I have done some searching and heard some success stories about some people getting CapitalOne to do a product change from a Platinum to Venture.
My question is, will this affect my AAOA?
The reason I ask is because I am considering asking them and my CapOne Platinum is my oldest card and I don't want to lose the history.
Also, does anyone know if the Venture card from CapitalOne comes in the MasterCard variant?
I went to Montreal a couple weeks back and NO PLACE (I repeat NO PLACE) I went to (and I went to a lot of places) accepted VISA or DISCOVER. Luckily I had my CapOne Platinum MasterCard which worked everywhere there. And to think, I was considering CANCELING the card right before I left on my trip to Canada!
While I can't answer the AAOA question, I do know that Cap One is a real stickler with an PCs. I remember reading that they want you to have at least $5k credit lines before they'll issue you a Venture card (although that might have changed). Also, unless you have the Platinum Prestige, I doubt you're going to have much luck getting a PC.. going from an average/subprime card to one one of their excellent credit/prime cards in a PC would take some sort of miracle.
It definitely won't hurt to try! Worst they can say is no. But unless you're exceptionally lucky, I doubt you'll have much luck with them. It is Cap One, after all. They seem to want you to re-apply any time you want any sort of product change.

They'll likely tell you that you need to app for the cc you want, and can't change CCs. Whatever they do do, expect 3 HP - one for each CRA.
I've read that they sometimes pull only 1 for their prime products - but I wouldn't count on it. We ARE talking about Capital One, after all.
They're a good company to start with, but once you move on to prime-land, there's just better options out there.

I couldn't agree more. And we haven't even mentioned the term CLI and what it means with Cap One (about as frequent as a meteorite landing in your yard). Or their oh so fantastic customer service.
I give them, they are good to rebuild with, but I say like you Andy once you can get better, there is NO reason to stay.
They changed me to a VentureOne card from Platinum. However they initiated the PC, not me. Limit was stuck at $3250 so I closed the account in favor of other cards that actually grow.
I recently upgraded from the Platinum to the Venture card with a limit of $4,500, so I don't know how much there is to having a $5,000 limit or above for the change. Also, the change did not effect my AAOA, still says member since 2005. The Platinum card I started with is the one that grew overtime after so many months. Eventually it got to the point where my card went to 'elite status' (whatever that means) to a rewards program (points), to pacify me I guess since I hadn't had a credit limit increase in over 3 years. So I decided to change the card to the Venture card, with hopes of getting an increase in the future. But to answer the orirginal poster's question, yes you can do a product change from the regular platinum to the Venture card and not loose your AAOA.

Did they do a HP for this ? Or just a PC with no inquiry ??

How exactly did you get them to give you a PC? All I've ever gotten from them is that you have to have it available as an offer on your account - and like everyone knows, you really can't predict something like that with Cap One, regardless of how good your payment history is or how much better your credit has improved.
No special action on my part AndyK, just called the backdoor number (account specialist), about a minute later the card was changed. Rec'd the new card a days later. Wish I could offer you more, but all it took was a phone call.
