CareCredit upgrade to Rewards Mastercard

Today is the 2-year anniversary of opening my regular CareCredit account. This morning I received and accepted their offer of the Rewards Mastercard version. It has a different account number and I wondered if I now had two accounts. By phone, the CSR told me it was an upgrade, no HP, and the new card is on its way in the mail. Destroy the old card and register the new. Then the balance from an existing payment plan will automatically transfer over.

I use CareCredit occasionally at Walgreens to keep the card active, and especially when there's a month-long 10% cashback promo, which has been offered twice this year so far. I've also used their payment plan for large vet bills, once in 2019 and again 2 weeks ago. Another vet procedure is coming up this week, so I requested a CLI to $10k and was instantly approved. 

I've been very pleased with this card, even though it has its limitations. The MC version will give me more latitude. My only other Synchrony exposure is my $8k PayPal 2% Mastercard.

Thanks for your DPs @Anonymous.  We certainly had not heard about the CareCredit MC upgrades in a long while.  

Just keep in mind that the upgrade may have an impact to your AAoA (if that matters to you) since the MC will report as a new account (history is not carried over from the closed, non-MC version).  On the upside, you'll definitely have more flexibility wherever MC is accepted and you'll likely receive some decent targeted offers.

@Anonymous can i ask what state you live in?  As know they have done this in Alabama and CA, seeing if it is in another state as very rare and random, but those two states pop out for upgrades for some reason and others not so that I have seen from data at least on this site.

Thanks for all the warm congrats, everybody. I live in California. There may be any number of reasons for triggering my upgrade, besides the 2-year mark...

- I used the card at Walgreens numerous times throughout June to maximize the 10% cashback promo.

- I PIFed on July 3.

- I incurred a big vet bill on July 4, and was approved for a 6-month/no interest payment plan.

- Anticipating more big vet expenses, I requested a CLI to $10k online July 8 and was instantly approved.

A few days later (maybe July 12?), I got the pop-up offer but brushed it off, as I was way too distracted and distressed about my sick cat.

When I logged into my account yesterday, there was the pop-up again but it didn't mention the word upgrade, only that I had a new Rewards MC offer I could accept if I wanted. It took a call to a CSR (on hold for 35 minutes) to clarify that it was indeed an upgrade, with no HP.

My apologies, since I'm not familiar with CareCredit...what was it before the MC upgrade? Is it some sort of store card? This has me all sorts of confused now lol. And does it work for all sorts of healthcare type stuff? I will probably need dental work in the near future, so I might need to look into this.
