The collection is not paid, I helped a "friend" move into an aparment 5 years ago and that was that, never paid. total balance on that is $5900 it shows as a joint account. I am just going to bring down my util to the low teens and app in a couple of months, I'd hate to get denied with amex again (ive applied about 6 months ago with no luck)
A $5900 collection account is going to be difficult to overlook for any lender. Have you tried a PFD? I would work on clearing up your CR and app'ing for an Amex later

I am thinking about applying for the Amex Everyday or BCE
I really want another card that is not capital one (which is all i have), i have the platinum and quicksilver both for 500, express (comenity) for $750.
I was approved last year with a EX score of 658 for a credit limit of 1k (now at 9k with CLIs) with a $45.00 parking ticket collection (unpaid) and a satisfied judment....
$45 and $5900 is a big difference

Ya, with a $5,900 unpaid collection, I would think you would get turned down. My $45.00 parking ticket at the time was about 4 years old......It's now 5 years old, and still not paid. NOT going to pay it. LOL unless they agree for a pay for delete.
