@gingerflower wrote:Sorry late reply! So far @Anonymous had posted the details on the letter received. One thing noted is there will be a new credit card number and there is no mention of Option to Opt out. I guess it will be reported as New account because the new card will have a different credit card number.
The card number (usually!) has no impact, consider when your card is replaced because of fraud. Expectation is that the Barclays account is created but history is moved....
I've called and secure messaged Chase to see if they will pc my AARP with no luck.
Looks like this one will die once it hits Barclay.
I am not interested in opening another Chase card and may never open another one again.
I would think Chase would want to keep us as customers and give us some options for product change.

If you have other Chase CCs and do not feel confident about the Barclays switch, why not reallocate the CL @JamP?
If no current Chase relationship, then as long as the AARP rewards structure isn't drastically changed (once transitioned), then it's just another CC at the end of the day 🤷♂️
So Chase isnt keeping my account, they lied to me 3 times and that includes higher ups.... I absolutely detest Barclays, cleared out of them several years ago not happy about having another account with them. Min redemption now $25 from any amount. Forced out of restaurants 3% though I have other cards that cover them with 3% or better. I just dont like being lied to, bankers get away with it with impunity and I have had my fill of it all.

@FinStar I have no other Chase cards but would have gladly product changed it to another card to keep my relationship with Chase. I am in the middle of trying to find/buy a home (yeah horrible time to decide to buy a new home) so not opening any new tradelines right now.
Your right just another credit card

@Anonymous wrote:My letter gives a reference code and automated line to call to "reject these changes" which it says would close the account. Apparently, they'd still go ahead and send the card anyway, but want me to discard the materials when I receive them.
I do plan to keep the card for the 3% gas and was also wondering whether it'll show up as newly opened line. Nothing on the letter about this, but the pamphlet says to go here for more questions: https://www.aarpcreditcard.com/barclays, where the only mention are these two lines:
- The AARP® Credit Card program from Chase will be transferred to Barclays on September 20, 2021. Your Chase transaction history, account balance, and rewards balance (if applicable) will be transferred to your new Mastercard from Barclays account on September 20, 2021.
- Will my AARP Credit Card from Chase trade line report differently on my credit bureau report after my account is transferred to Barclays?
- Yes. If your account is transferred from Chase to Barclays, you will have a Barclays trade line on your credit bureau report. Your credit bureau report may take up to 60 days to update following the transfer.
If transaction history is getting transferred over, I'm hoping it'll report the same payment history or at least same account opening date, but maybe not...
I got my letter today. Strange stuff in it, particularly this:
You may reject the changes to the above terms.... However, doing so means that we will close your account.... Even if you reject these changes and we close your account, your account will still be converted to a new AARP Essential Rewards Mastercard from Barclays and you will receive a new credit card.....
How can that even be legal?
It is legal because it was a purchased portfolio agreement between both lenders. As a consumer, you can elect to not continue under the new T&C's, but this doesn't stop the account conversion process. Some cards will likely be supressed during conversion so it's likely no plastics will generate, but the disclaimer is there in the event that during the transition/conversion a card has generated by the system, but the accountholder has decided to not continue with the new T&C's.
For context, this type of clause (with similar language) has been in existence for several decades, so I'm not sure where there's any doubt about the legality.
I have a hunch it's not legal to open a new account in someone's name without their consent. You have to give them a chance to opt out.
I hope the CFPB gets involved.

Sad to see this card go. It was one of my favorites.

I don't blame that sentiment one bit. They pull all the puppet strings regardless of loyalty, keeping them rolling in slider fees etc.
As for Barclay's-it's like oh no- not this. Remember they dumped a portfolio that is now Mercury Mastercard which i just happen to have for rebuild purposes. And also will be closed as soon as Navy reports my new approval Amex with them.
On my end Barclay's is one of those like Cap One is become and i have neither and want neither.
Sometimes you got to just to exercise if there are any other options and cut the gristle to keep to greener pastures.
I agree...I'd rather product change then having to have my account with Barclay's. This will be my 3rd Cc with Barclay's.
