Chase / First USA?

Does anyone know the linkage, if any, between First USA and Chase?

I saw an inquiry on my credit report that cryptically listed both names.

Bank One Corporation, based in Chicago, Illinois, was the sixth-largest bank in the United States. It traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the stock symbol ONE. The company was acquired by JPMorgan Chase & Co. on July 1, 2004.

The bank traces its roots to First Bancgroup of Ohio, founded as a holding company for City National Bank of Columbus, Ohio and several other banks in that state, all of which were renamed "Bank One" when the holding company was renamed Banc One Corporation. With the beginning of interstate banking they spread into other states, always renaming acquired banks "Bank One", though for a long time they resisted combining them into one bank. In 1998, Banc One Corporation merged with Chicago-based First Chicago NBD Corporation to form Bank One Corporation, and headquarters moved from Columbus to Chicago.

They are one and the same. I applied for a Chase card through Office Depot. The response came in from First USA. I disputed the inquiry shown on my report from First USA, and Chase responded.

Did you get the inquiry removed or recoded?

I did not. I figured it did not mattered much since I only have two hits there. It may be 3 points worth.

 I am in the process and more interested in getting a Cap 1 "Paid for less than full balance" CO verified. I heard that if I send another dispute while the other is pending, it will allow them to extend the time they have to complete the verification.
