Chase Freedom Confusion?

I can't believe the conflicting information over the Freedom. I went into my Chase branch today(had to access my account) and I asked the teller about the Freedom since I'm quite interested in it. She asked the basic general information and she saw my account has quite a balance (about $2000) and I emphasized that I had no/limited history. She insisted that they treat each application differently, etc etc and that given that I have an account I can probably get it. (I felt glad but skeptical after knowing from these forums) I'm curious to know if it's even possible to get the card without history besides a student loan. I think these bankers get some commision for persisentece in submitting as many apps. I also know they have a pretty good recon team so I I turn to this informative forum. What are the chances of being approved. On here I hear about 1-2 years of history, some say 6 months, and now this (perhaps crazy or slick) teller tells me no/limited is ok.

Re: Chase Freedom Confusion?

I actually went to Chase to open a savings account (I already had a checking account for a year) and the CSR told me that I was pre-approved for the Freedom card.

BUT, I did already have a credit history with MBNA.

You might want to ask the CSR instead of the teller as well.

CSR and Teller practically same thing on pay grade and knowledge!

Chase is a crazy bag of weird in the last year or so.... My partner has an 802 Fico and a car loan with Chase and was given a $1k CL on freedom... His next Credit Card lowest limit is $7500!!! (well that was 8-12 months ago now)

but I have seen so many people declined just for not having other credit history and then I have seen some people getting $400CL's.

They are TERRIBLE about CLI, but then some have huge lines and have no complaints of such things.... so I think you will hear 50% why to do it and 50% of why not to do it....

I would say go for it if you can afford the INQ, maybe you will be on the good side of Chase' computer that day!!!

Re: Chase Freedom Confusion?

I work at a bank.

You'd think it's the same pay and knowledge, but it really isn't.
Can be surprising how different both can be from bank to bank. There's a reason the teller is still on the teller side and not on the CSR if it were the same.

Hard to tell with no revolving credit history. It probably won't hurt too much to app- an inquiry on the report- but you should also consider apping for an intro card instead (Cap1 for example). So all you have is a student loan account and nothing else? No baddies? If that's true, I'd personally app for the freedom card and plan on a recon. Be prepared to state your case and be happy with a lower limit.

Re: Chase Freedom Confusion?

Me and my mother have had nothing but good luck with chase. They have given us some of our highest lines. Many people have been getting CL much lower then expected. Very unpredictable lending department!
