I'm pretty new to credit, I only have had a Discover open since October 2013 with a CL of 1250, 5 on time payments is all I have to show. Utilization is always maintained at 2%-5%. Applied for freedom today and just got denied. Called in twice and talked to 2 different people on the recon line, still denied.
Really just wanted a 500 CL so I could have more accounts and build a history with chase and eventually in a year or so from now qualify for the CSP.. so frustrating. ![]()

I think calling the recon line again might be your best bet. Explain your situation that you're just beginning and would like to just get your foot in the door and prove yourself to Chase.
I recommend Capital One if this is ultimately unsuccessful. They are always great with building, in my experience. (Even if they might triple pull you.)
I did explain the situation on both times, saying I just want to build history even if they give me a low CL it's fine. They still wouldn't approve saying I haven't established anything, I'm extremely disappointed right now.. maybe I can call again for recon when my next on time payment for Discover posts next month? Then, I would have 6 on time payments on my credit file.
Chase would not give me a chance either... even though I have paid off two auto loans with them in the last 7 years with ZERO late payments...
I second Capital One... I know that Everyone has thier own experience and Opinion, mine has been very good with Capital One, They gave me a $300 Credit Steps Quick SIlver ( 0 % intro until Summer of 2014) and I use the card A lot and PIF multiple times.... They already gave me a cli to $1500.
If your looking for a second trade line to rebuild... Capital One may be an option... it was for me.
It takes 6 months to start generating a credit report with the credit rating bureaus. That's why they tell you that you haven't established anything. Hold off with any more apps until you have a good six months of credit reporting.

I'm pretty sure I would get approved for Capital One, but the cashback on Freedom is really attractive. My main motive is to get the United Mileageplus or CSP since I travel a few times a year on United, and if I get the Freedom I can just start building points now and transfer them all later.
I've gone through the forum and it seems like Chase is super nice with recons.. I don't know why they won't approve me even for the minimum CL. Thoroughly disappointed on wasting a HP on this.
You might want to call the recon # or try another CC company such as Capital One. Good Luck!!!

Do you recon I can get approved if I call in again when my 6th month payment gets posted? My next Discover payment gets reported on April 16, so its still within 30 days for the recon without the need for another HP.

The payment may post but it has to report to the credit agencys. It's worth a shot before the 30 days. Good Luck!

They report on the 16th of every month for me. When I check on the 17th or 18th, I already see a green "OK" on my credit file. I'll shoot for that then next month when my 6th payment gets reported, hopefully they'll approve me then. Thanks!
