Chase Freedom Rise to Chase Sapphire Preferred

My Chase Freedom Rise (CFR) is coming up on 1 year and I ma wondering if I am able to product change/upgrade directly to a CSP from the CFR, I do have another card with a $5K limit so if I really have to I could move some credit around, does Chase allow that or so I have to choose between the Unlimited or Flex?

Yes you can upgrade to the CSP  as long as your profile supports it. You likely won't be eligible to get a SUB (but ask if there's any targeted offers available to upgrade), and be sure the CFR doesn't have a balance on it when you inquire as they won't transfer a balance from one to the other.

Re: Chase Freedom Rise to Chase Sapphire Preferred

I would apply for a new account rather then upgrading your Freedom Rise Card. Check out the "Just for You" offers on the website and see if you are pre approved for any offers. Once your approved, I would product change The Rise to a regular Freedom Card.

American Express: Platinum Charge, Business Platinum, Business Gold, Delta Business Reserve, Business Cash, Business Plus
Bank of America: Alaska Air Atmos Summit Visa Infinite
Capital One: Savor WEMC, Venture X Visa Infinite
Chase: Freedom U Visa Signature, CSR Visa Infinite
Citibank: AAdvantage Globe WLMC
Elan/US Bank: Fidelity Visa Signature
Credit Union: Cash Back Visa Signature
FICO 08: Score decrease between 26-41 points after auto payoff (11.01.21) FICO as of 12.24, EX: 816 / EQ: 825 / TU: 818

Re: Chase Freedom Rise to Chase Sapphire Preferred

When you say not have a balance, does that mean pay down what I've currently spent on the card even though I'm in the middle of a billing cycle or just not leave a balance on that last statement cycle (which I never do anyway) I also have the United Gateway with a $5K credit limit so my profile does qualify for a $5K credit limit on a card

Re: Chase Freedom Rise to Chase Sapphire Preferred

I'd wait until you're under 5/24 so you can get the SUB. Is there any downside to keeping the Freedom Rise in the interim?

BofA - Unlimited Cash Rewards Sig
Chase - CSR, Amazon Prime, United Explorer

if your united gateway is a visa signature, you would need to downgrade it to the not visa signature version and you would need to keep a limit of $1k on that card

and then your CFR would need at least $1k on it already so it would be $5k when the product change happened, and I assume based on the 1 year thing to PC into the CFU now, they may not allow it until it turns 1 year old? but perhaps not

tldr: just wait until you're under 5/24 and apply for it directly

Re: Chase Freedom Rise to Chase Sapphire Preferred

My United Gateway is a regular visa with a $5K limit. My CFR has a $2K limit should I ask for a credit limit increase first before upgrading?

Re: Chase Freedom Rise to Chase Sapphire Preferred

What is the purpose of upgrading?

with a bit of patience to get back under 5/24 you can get a very good SUB vs just PC'ing your current card.

whats your ultimate goal?

Re: Chase Freedom Rise to Chase Sapphire Preferred

Getting a more "premium" travel card the only thing things that would really constitute travel would be my United and BECU Visa cards and they aren't really good for anything besides what their co branded or 1.5x back my BECU Visa only has a $1K CL so that would prove problematic. Im also planning on dumping all 3 Amex charge cards in one day since they'd all be pre approvals so really won't be any harm applying to all 3 on one go and I figured if Amex pre approves me to go for the BILT Mastercard as well. All of this would be on one go
