I have 2 seperate upcoming 1-week stay at Hyatt to attend conferences. Hyatt is the location of the conferences and offer a great rate when participants stay at the Hyatt. Does anyone know is it worth it to apply and get a Chase Hyatt with 40,000 bonus points to help offeset the cost of my room? Or does it make more sense to use my AMEX Gold to pay for the rooms and collect AMEX points?
I have a lot of travel cards, and I split my use of them up depending on what I'm buying and what my end goals are. I had a recent post about me getting the Hyatt card, but ony because a lot of vacation spots are close to Hyatt properties and I'm basically giving it a shot vs staying at Marriott properties. I think that you have to figure out how you value and will use the MR points vs how you value and will use the Hyatt points. I value MR points higher because of my diverse options for redemption / transfer partners vs my limited use for Hyatt points. Do you plan on keeping either card long term? Is the sign up bonus alone worth getting the Hyatt card? Do you want to use the points for more hotel stays, or would you see more value in having more redemption options? TPG's valuation of the points are .1cpp apart, so I think it's more on what you want out of it. Sorry for any rambling here... writing this while trying to stop a 2 year old from eating the dog and vice versa.
