Chase Product Change

Hello,

Do any of you know if Chase will do a product change? I have an old Providian turned Wamu turned Chase Slate card that has a $17,000 credit line that I NEVER use - mainly because I have no need to. I PIF every month on all of my cards so the Slate program doesn't really benefit me. If I were to call them, what is the likely hood that they would do a product change to a Freedom card?

Any info is much appreciated!

Re: Chase Product Change

only way to find out is to call and ask.... some cards are eligible for pc and others are not.  I have done it a couple times with a couple cards but this other plain platinum rebates card I have said is NEVER going to be eligible... so I don't know what decides it.

Re: Chase Product Change

Just keep in mind that you won't get those "new cardmember" promotions like bonus points, etc.  You may want to ask the rep what benefits you'll get. I know with the Chase Continental OnePass Plus it states that if you changed products within Chase you are not eligible for anything of the initial bonuses such as 25,000 bonus miles, $50 statement credit, and 5,000 bonus miles for AU. As well as a few other new member perks.

Re: Chase Product Change

Merry X'mas everyone!

I am not sure .. but most likely they won't let you do it due to the different Rewards Program and APR.  Like other members said, best way is call and ask them your question.  You never know ~

Chase even won't let me combine Freedom VISA and MC.  I had Freedom MC (higher APR) first, it was reguler and then it changed to World MC later which they don't report my CL.  Then my Starbucks Duetto VISA (lower APR and had before Freedom MC) changed to Freedom VISA.  I called and asked to merge together since it is same Freedom.  They told me "no" it's because of different APR even same Freedom, moreover, VISA and MC can't combine together.  If they let me ... I will keep the VISA and have 17.6k CL reported.

Re: Chase Product Change

I had an old WaMu turned Chase Flexible Rewards (that I was barely using) which I pc'd into a Chase Freedom a few months back. There were no issues at all, but as someone else stated, you don't get the new cardmember bonuses. You do get to keep whatever points you had though. They just translate them into their Ultimate Rewards points system.

Re: Chase Product Change

I called in this afternoon trying to change my Chase Freedom Siggie to a Sapphire CC.  The rep told me I couldn't make the switch.  Had her look at my Perfectcard MC (old Wamu CC) and she said I could change that to a Freedom or a Sapphire because of the credit limit.  I changed it to the Freedom.  When I asked her why I couldn't change the siggie card she said it wasn't eligible and it was because of the economy...What the H???  My patience with Chase is beginning to become non-existent.  Of late I have found their CSRs incompetent and their policies making no sense whatsoever.  I have gotten much better service from Citi, BofA, and US Bank.  I will try this again with a different CSR next week but if they cannot give me a logical reason why I cannot PC my Freedom Siggie to a Sapphire then I'll cultivate my relationships with other banks.

Re: Chase Product Change

Chase is decent when it comes to requests for product changes. It depends on the Tier of the current card, and the iter you want to change to. If they are the same or less, they can approve the product change.

After looking at their website I think I'm kind of understanding the method to their madness.  The Sapphire card has an APR of 13.24%.  My Freedom Sig card has an APR of 18.24% but the limit qualifies.  So they won't move a higher APR to a lower APR...soooo...I'd have to move some of the Sig limit to the MC which has a 12.24% and then convert.  Frankly, after I read the reward program benefits it's not all that great of a program unless you travel a lot.  I'll just leave what I have alone for now. Smiley Happy

What type of WaMu cc you had?

Mine was Platinum MC and now it has no name other than card number.

The APR:   Purchase   APR  7.24%        Cash   APR  19.99%

My current Freedom VISA (former Starbucks Duetto VISA)

The APR:   Purchase   APR  13.24%      Cash   APR  25.24%

My current Freedom World MC

The APR:   Purchase   APR  15.24%      Cash   APR  19.24%

Since it has lowest APR within Chase, I just keep it as is for back-up card.  Currently I use this card about twice a year to keep it an active status.

Or .. may be good idea to PC to Freedom VISA and combine with my current Freedom VISA.  Then it becomes my highest CL of 14.6k

Because I have Purchase APR 7.25%  Cash Adv APR 8.25% with Addison Ave Platinum Rewards.  Too bad, my NFCU ccs are higher than those because they raised it ... Purchase APR 7.90%  with nRewards, Purchase APR 9.65%  with cashRewards.

The downside of this action will be ... Chase may CLD or close it ... I don't want that happen to me ... who knows ...

I always PIF and APR does not mater at this moment, but it is good have low APR possible just in case ... especially in this economy nowadays ...
