Re: Chase Sapphire Preferred Chances

The minimum starting limit for the Sapphire preferred is $5k. So half the reserve. Which makes it a good start to get your foot in the door and get a good amount of points as a sign up bonus. I think for that reason it's also much easier to get. If you have a good credit score, I think you'll be fine at your income.  But also keep in mind you need to spend I think $4k in the first 3 months to get the bonus of 50,000 points. If you don't think you would normally spend that...i'd just go for the Freedom or Freedom unlimited this year, and maybe look at the Preferred or Reserve later on in the year when you are planning some trips.

Re: Chase Sapphire Preferred Chances

I would like to strongly discourage you from getting a card you have limited or no use for, just to "get the foot in". It's a silly concept

If your profile supports it, you will be approved anyway. If it does not, the door can slam on your foot.

Be judicious when applying and you wont have to start " Which cards should I close" threads any time soon.

Dont ask me how I know 😐

Re: Chase Sapphire Preferred Chances

@Anonymous, the CSP has a minimum starting limit of 5k. The CSR has a minimum starting limit of 10k.

In your original post, you make a good case for the Sapphire Preferred being a good fit. In your next post, you were a little more hesitant. Don't pull the trigger unless you're sure. At any rate, I'd expect that you'd be approved for the CSP. I'd say you were probably borderline for the Reserve.

Re: Chase Sapphire Preferred Chances

I've had my eyes on the CSP for a few months now. I actually chose the Amex Gold over it back in September.

Scores are currently 770 TU, 759 EX, 769 EQ, income around $35000. I'm still college as well (undergrad) so kinda hard to earn a lot, but if I qualified for the Gold card with similar scores and income, I imagine CSP is similar in terms of difficulty to obtain.

I'll be sure to update in March after I apply to hopefully give some data points on approval chances.
