Hey everyone! It's been a while since I applied for a card and I have been wanting to get back in with Chase. I burned them in BK7 for like $1,500 back in FEB 2021.
Almost a month ago, should report soon as new TL, I applied for the Freedom Unlimited and Instand denial, which I knew I would have to recon, and to my surprise I was approved for $5,900. I have been spending a bit and PIF since having the card. Ok, so here is the Question..... Last night I see the green your pre-approved for the CSR!! I said what?? Lol. My question is has anyone seen this with my Freedom Unlimited card being so new? Also someone with a BK in the past with them (yes almost 5 years ago) but still. Could that be a legit pre-approved offer you think?
I'm under 5/24 and EX8 and TU8 are around 755.
Credit card util is like 1%. Highest card limit is with NFCU and it's like $18k
Long post. Thanks for the help.
Given your recent adverse history with Chase, @wxman2021, a Green Star offer is quite surprising! None-the-less, while neither is a guaranteed approval, Black Star and Green Star offers are pretty solid preapprovals. Personally, I've taken more of a slow roll with Chase and tried to space out my apps by at least three months. That offer will probably stick around for awhile if you want to let your new Freedom Unlimited age a bit more. You mentioned you're under 5/24, so that's one hurdle out of the way. FICO looks solid. And you have a card over $10K which would be your minimum SL, so that's consistent with profile. I think it's worth a try if you find the card useful, whether you do it now or in a few months. Congrats on your Chase success!

Thank you! I appreciate the response. I am very surprised as well for it showing that Green star. I had to look a few times, lol. I might hold off a bit, since my goal is to get into AMEX but I have to wait until March (60 month post filing) I have never had an AMEX but I do prefer to fly with Delta. I am leaving my options open because I know chase is obviously a good choice.
It has a $795 AF, the biggest question is can you offset that and more, to make it worth it?

True, but that's not as hard as it sounds! 😁
Year 1: The current 125,000 UR Point SUB is worth at a minimum $1,250 if cashed-in at 1 cpp.
The $300 automatic annual travel credit is insanely easy to use for anyone who travels at all. Chase has a very wide definition of travel.
$795 - $300 =maximum effective fee of $495 before any other credits. At that rate and allowing for the SUB, you could get the card, simply use it for two $300 travel purchases, and hold it for over 2.5 years before you started to lose even a nickel. That's without taking advantage of any other credits or perks! 😧 If you don't cash those points and transfer them to travel partners, you could go even longer.
Other credits available:
$300 Dining (Sapphire Reserve Exclusive Tables)
$300 Stubhub
$120 LYFT
$250 Apple TV-Apple Music
$300 Door Dash
$500 Hotels (The Edit)
$120 TSA Global Entry Reimbursement
$120 Pelaton
Then there is the subjective value-added for airport lounge access (Chase Sapphire & Priority Pass), for IHG hotels Platinum Status for perks and points, or for industry-leading travel protections. That's just the tip of the iceberg and doesn't even get into many other great aspects of the card.
So yes, it's not for everyone but many can find great value in this card, even at the high AF.

Understood! But not for me! Except for maybe the Welcome Offer. Like I did with the Preferred. $1000 cash for $95 AF.
FYI, it's an 'Offer', not a 'Bonus', meaning, you can choose to participate, or not. It's not a 'Bonus'. A 'Bonus' is something you get, regardless of whether or not you are willing to take them up on their 'offer'. By definition.
Thanks for all the replies. Yes I could make the AF work for sure, but I want to see what amex can do once I have a chance to apply in march. Plus the pre-approved banner went away today. Lol
I would wait at least a few months between applications. And I would not be in such a hurry to get such an expensive card, even years after bankruptcy. But that’s just me.

Oh boy. Here we go again, @ptatohed. We went round-and-round about this one in February 2024: >link<.
I want to respond but I don't want to derail this unrelated thread. I think a new topic to specifically discuss this again would work best and might let us resolve this one-way-or-the-other. See you on >the other thread<.

Thank you! I think that is what I am going to do. There is no hurry for sure.
