Chase Slate New Account Help

Hi everybody. I am new to myFICO and was hoping for some helpful advice from you all that may have some good information for me. I have just recently started building my credit. I have a few bad things on my report about 3 collection accounts 2 are from almost 7 years ago and one is a hospital and is recent because I never got a statement from them and when I called and offered to pay in full if they would remove it from my report they refused so I am not paying it. Anyways I have a total of 8 credit cards but am looking to cancel a few of the high interest and annual fee ones due to my improved credit and ability to get much better cards. Today I got instantly approved for a Chase Slate card. I was so excited because I have always wanted a Chase card due to their excellent rewards and perks. Well after getting approved today I did a google search for reviews and am finding out from tons and tons of reviews that Chase likes to close accounts for no apparrent reason and without giving notice first to the customer. This has me worried because I do not want to waste my time attempting to build a solid financial relationship with a bank that is just going to throw me away down the road because my score drops a few points or because I apply for a new credit card. There are so many horror stories from people who have been with them for such a long time and have much better credit than I do. I have been approved for a $2000.00 limit to start and since they have offered their 0%apr and 0.00 transfer fee I would greatly like to transfer some of my balances to them. My questions are as follows. First of all is it ok to transfer 1800.00 to the account, which is the total of my other balances so that for the first time in my life I can have 0% interest on my balances and only have to make 1 payment each month despite that it will bring me close to my limit with Chase? Will this make chase angry and want to close my account? I understand that it will put me at high utilization with them but all of my other accounts will be showing 0 utilization and when you take my total credit lines into account it will only be about 25% utiliazation, so is that OK or not? Also are there any helpful hints that you all can give me that will insure chase will NOT close my account? I always make my payments with all people on time, I am never late, I will make sure I have no further derogatory information reported on my credit report, and I always pay more than the minimum amount due. Is there anything besides those obvious things that will ensure I can keep my account with Chase? Also any other advice you all could give me would be much appreciated. Thank you so so much for taking the time to read my post, and thank you in advance to those of you willing to give me advice....It means a lot. Smiley Happy

I've not heard this.  People will say "for no reason" but there's always something that happens that forces Chase into adverse action.  If you have a new collection, don't pay bills, max everything out, I could see where this might be the case.  Just pay your bills and everything will be fine.

Yes that's perfectly fine, that's what the Chase Slate is for, after all.

Re: Chase Slate New Account Help

Hi. Thanks so so much for replying to me. I just did a google search to locate that information and maybe it's just from disgruntled customers I am not sure but you can see for yourself they all sound pretty legitimate about being closed for no reason and some of them had been customers for a very long time and others as soon as 2 months. It just scared me because I have had my capital one since the beginning and they have never reduced my limits or cancelled my accounts I have 3 with them. And all have just gotten better, removing annual fees permanantly, lowering aprs and always increasing my credit limits. As for almost maxing out the Chase Slate you said that was OK, so that's what I would really like to do cause like I said it will pay off all my other accounts and allow me to take advantage of the zero percent interest rate. I was just worried Chase would see that I am maxing out my account right away and it may give them cause for concern and I do not want to do that at all. But it would be awesome if I could transfer my balances to that account I was afraid of how it would look to them to basically max out the card righta way though. Thank you for your words of wisdom and advice.

Re: Chase Slate New Account Help

I would not worry about chase closing the card... If you google any bank you probably will mostly only see negative things.

Take advantage of the 0% and save money and if for some reason they want to close you shortly down the road, who cares... you are saving money with 0% for 15 months! but i doubt they will close you if you pay on time.

The Slate card only has the one perk, the balance transfer@0%, and you're using it. Congrats!
