I'm hearing that the annual fee is going to go up to $150 from $95. I'm not seeing that yet.

I saw that same rumor and decided to close my Explorer card. My annual fee would have been due in a few weeks, and I realized that I hadn't flown United in over 2 years.
I would suggest that you downgrade to the gateway instead to keep the history and your United card options open. You could always upgrade back to a different card later.

I already closed it. I was concerned about my aggregate credit limits with Chase spooking them since my income has drastically reduced after retiring. I'd rather make sure that my limits stayed intact on my remaining Chase cards.
Explorer to $150
Quest to $350
Club to $695
Rideshare credits per month, instacart credits per month. United Club memebership hatchet job unrelated to the credit cards.
Time to move to the BoA PRE or a different Visa Infinite and downgrade the club back to the Gateway.
Best overview of the changed ive found https://www.dansdeals.com/points-travel/airlines/united/wow-united-massively-overhauls-credit-card-p...

I saw that. If you want to keep close to the same level of benefits you need Star Alliance Gold. Still at a higher annual fee. Might look at getting it from a another airline and not United.

I mean domestically there are no lounges really worth it, and international i would get access based on ticket class. Especially as someone who only has lounges on connections anyway. I should drop below 5/24 by June, so i will see about the PRE later.
How's the food in United lounges compared to Amex lounges?

IME United Clubs in general are more about providing snacks and beverages than meals, about the best you could do is assemble together a light meal. If getting a full meal in the lounge is a priority a Centurian Lounge is the better bet.
