Hi just curious about some of your experiences here with Chase starting limits. I was reading on a cc review site that chase usually does not give steller starting limits on the freedom? For those of you who have this card and decent scores (no baddies ect) what was your starting limit on this card? How about the Chase amazon are those usually low too?
Does chase HP for a CLI and when do they typically give them? I'm interested because of the %5 cash back before 5/24 is hit but wonder if it's worth it if it's going to be a smaller end limit.
Thanks
All customer-initiated CLI requests (whether by phone, website, whatever) are HP.
Auto CLIs occasionally happen but are not guaranteed. I've had Freedom (my first credit of any type) for nearly 5 years and have never gotten an auto CLI. That said, I've added and kept four more Chase cards. I also took a HP for a modest CLI around month 8 on Freedom.
I got a $600 toy limit, but I had no history at the time. For an applicant with a more mature profile, don't underestimate the role of income.
Hi Bees18,
As wasCB14 has mentioned, all customer initiated CLIs are HP. No exceptions here.
Chase does a auto CLI once every few months, but there are no patterns, DP asserting these occurances. Since you are looking to capture DPs, I have had the freedom card since 2011, and in the past 3 years, I have received 4 CLIs. Based on the feedback from the community members, this is an extremly rare occurance.
If memory serves me right, my SL on the Freendom was $4500, score was in the 740 -750 range. Thin file.
Last month DW apped for the Freedom Unlimited and received a SL of $8700, score was 764. Thinnest file I know.
I hope this helps!
I had a targeted offer for my FU when I only had my Disco. They gave me a toy limit of $500.
That said, it doubled twice, first auto then HP.
Somebody else already noted the power of income with Chase, and that's definitely true based on data points I've seen. There also seems to be some correlation with relationship as well.

Hi OP, I had no previous relationship with Chase and only one credit card when I applied for the Freeedom Unlimited in June of 2016 and was approved for $10,000. My FICO at the time was around 795 average for all 3. My income that I use on for credit card applications is $135K.

I don't think the Freedom has low starting limits per se. It's more that the Freedom is available as a "starter card" and so people with less strong profiles can get (with a lower SL) whereas the CSR is going to require a better profile. So if you have a strong profile, you can get a high SL even if Freedom is your first chase card
It requires a better profile...and appeals disproportionately to frequent travelers (who tend to have the discretionary income that can fuel CLs).
I can tell you I have had my Chase Freedom Unlimited Visa card for @ 8 months now (with NO prior relationship with Chase), with a SL of $4,500. Just last month, they raised my limit to $6,500 without me even asking. I believe my FICO score was @ 763 when I originally applied. I am very happy with my Chase Freedom Unlimited card. I hope that information helps.
