Citi CL Consolidation

These last few days I've decided to shred several credit cards for the sake if simplifying management of them. I found out today that upon calling to cancel two different citi cards I had the ability to move the line over WITHOUT a hard pull. It was interesting because the option was not necessarily offered... I asked about potentially keeping part of my credit line and thats when I discovered it was an option. As part of the disclosure they account supervisor explicitly stated there would be no hard pull to process the request. Just wanted to let yall know!

Re: Citi CL Consolidation

While your experience provides some good data points, this is not always the case.  The HP varies on a case by case basis to include account history (much like whe an individual is eligible for SP CLI vs HP), it also depends on the product and overall relationship.  Citi hasn't changed their reallocation policies but folks also need to be aware that your situation is not set in stone for all cardholders.

Re: Citi CL Consolidation

Agree with finstar. Citi just tends to be 'case by case" with regard to HP/SP on CLIs or reallocations. They don't seem to have much of a set in stone policy on it.

I will say that more people report HPs than not on reallocations, whereas CLIs seem to be SP more often.

Glad you accomplished what you wanted without a HP, though Smiley Happy

Fair enough. For those considering it doesn't hurt to ask :-)

Thanks! Another interesting tidbit is that I was told card conversions are on hold until some time in November due to account terms changes being sent out. Could be another reason for the flexibility in my calls today.

You bring up a very good point.  Is this for all cards or just certain ones?

Two different account supervisors mentioned it was across the board for all product types... some standard fee or another was being updated for all accounts which required new terms to be sent out.

Oh I see.  Good to know!  During mid-April there were some system upgrades that also put a freeze on PCs but for a shorter timeframe.

Re: Citi CL Consolidation

I would point out that OP did close some of his citi cards, which was the reason, if not the entire reason, why citi allowed transferring the CL.
If OP simply requested CL consolidation without closing any card, I doubt citi would do it so painlessly without a HP.

Interesting obersvation... that could have been the reason why it was pretty easy to do.
