Hello to anyone who's reading this,
Have been with Citi from 2018, which is not very long, but I have been quite loyal and use the Double Cash Card and Costco Anywhere all I can,
Ever since I got approved for my Double Cash Card, I spent $103,000 in 2021, $473,000 in 2020, $490,000 in 2019, and $170,000 in 2018, trying to take full advantage of the 2% cash back program( still have over $4,000 Cash Back in the account, looks like I'll lose the rewards because the account is being close).
Last friday when I logged in and trying to make a payment to pay off my statement balance, it shows that the account has been closed, I was quite surprised so I called citi customer service. After they looked into my account, the agent on the phone told me that he doesn't understand why my account got shutdown, since all the payment history has been perfect, no late payment and always paid in full, he said the decision came directly from the corporate office, on the account it didn't state any reason why it's closed, he suggested me to wait for a letter that was sent out on June 11 (the day of account closure), the letter will explain why my account is closed.
So today the letter came in, and on the letter, it just says "I may request a statement of specific reasons for the action taken to close your account by writing to Cards Services Support Unit"
I've read quite a bit online, and all the people who had their Citi account closed, they all recieved a letter with explaination in it, regardless how silly the reason is, at least there's a reason why they shutdown the account, how come I didn't get any explainnation in the letter. very upset about this.
That's quite a lot of spend on the card(s). Does you income on file support that kind of spend?
Sorry to hear your account was closed.
Did you use the card for business expenses?
Did you have authorized users on the card?
Hi @Anonymous and sorry to hear about the Citi DC closure.
Unfortunately, the Adverse Action reasons are internally-driven and irreversible. It appears Citi has decided to exit their relationship. The letter does provide the option to send the request in writing (given this wasn't an action initiated by you) to obtain the specific reasons for the closure. I suppose if you want to learn why, just drop them a letter in the mail

I would also ask for them to allow you to redeem the $4,000 as that is a lot to leave behind. While T&Cs might say it is gone, sometimes issuers will return (some of) it just to calm things down.
But as I am sure you now know, that is WAY too much to leave with an issuer for precisely this kind of reason.

Oh my, that's just too much to leave behind!
OP, please look into this, it can't hurt to try.
Income should be fine. That shouldn't be the problem.
Some business mostly personal. I am the only card user.
I will call them again to see if they will be able to return it to me. Thank you so much for the suggestion. I was so frustrated when I realized they had closed my account, when I called they the first time, I completely forgot to ask them about it.
With that kind of spend, im going to venture or guess, their are/were purchases that drew a red flag and if it was big enough they decided to cut ties now regardless how much swipe fees they get. I would really look at whatever you were buying as the possible culprit. Just my op of course
