Just got an email from Citi offering me 5% statement credit back (up to $25) on restaurants, show theaters, and movie theaters. Wonder if they're considering making this a competitor to Discover it and Chase Freedom? Seems odd since they already have the Dividend card but it's closed to new apps. It overlaps with Discover (restaurants) and Chase Freedom (restaurants, movie theaters) this quarter, but since it's capped at only $500 of spend, I may not have an issue spending $3500 at restaurants over the course of the next 10 weeks to max out all 3 (already a few hundred into both Discover and Chase) for $175 back. I only have the card for balance transfers, but since it's still in the 0% APR into period, no harm in using it for purchases also and may help my next 6 month CLI coming up (1st SP CLI was at 2 month mark).
Starting with your next purchase, you’ll earn 5% back as a statement credit, up to $25, now through 09/30/2017 on eligible purchases you make at restaurants, show theaters & movie theaters.
For several years Citi has rewarded the users of its balance transfer cards (Diamond Preferred and Simplicity) with random offers like these. I've noticed that the offers are less generous this year than in 2016. Don't worry, they're not going to evolve the card into a regular rewards card like Citi Dividend.
Just out of curiosity, have you paid off the balance that you transferred? My offers like these did not arrive until I had.
Good to know. I'd love a Citi Dividend, actually! No, I opened it in November and I've been making more or less even payments to ride out the full 21 months at 0%. It's at about 55% util right now, so they probably just want to see some of the swiping/chipping action I so obviously give to other lenders.

My husband got a similar offer on his Citi Simplicity. Except his says for online purchases as opposed to specific categories.
We are on month 16 of a 21 mo. balance transfer and set to pay it off by the end of the promo period.
I had no idea they did things like this, it was a really pleasant surprise.
Guess what I just got again? Looks like they liked me using it after I exhausted Chase Freedom and Discover it this quarter. Too bad it's capped at $500.
Got another offer today as well =)

We must be on the same email schedule! Your categories are better than mine, though. I could knock that out in a Saturday!
IvyRain got the offer that I used to get.
Got the offer on TY Preferred. This is on top of the 0% APR through March offer they gave out on the card last month.
It's still staying in the drawer.
