Citi Diamond Preferred Card Invitation

My spouse and I have gotten several of these invitations in the mail. Thinking that they are pre-approvals we took the bait and applied. Rejected. Then got another invitation. Rejected. Another invitation to apply. Then rejected. I do not know how they are sending these out to folks who dont qualify. Each time we take the bait it is a ding on our report. Even if we are eligbile in the future we wont apply due to 4 rejections in a row.

Re: Citi Diamond Preferred Card Invitation

how soon after each deny did u decide to re-app? Also did u call to ask why it was dissaproved? Just becouse your getting a offer doesn't mean you will be approved, find out what is keeping you from getting the approval and work on that, not stay APP'ing for the card...this will just keep your score down.

Sorry if that sounded harsh.

Re: Citi Diamond Preferred Card Invitation

Very sorry :-(

I am waiting on a decision from Citi as we speak. I actually cleaned up and got my utilization down to 8%.  Will see what happens.

But I agree that they should do a better job at targeting their offers. Very misleading and frustrating. Seems like the marketing money could also be better spent by reducing APR rates to customers.

What's your profile? They must like something they see on soft pulls, and I'd really like this card at some point.

Also, I will never take a rejection again without a serious recon effort - I'd definitely consider, well, reconsidering a recon Smiley Happy

Re: Citi Diamond Preferred Card Invitation

Has your FICO dropped signifcantly in the last 6 months?  Do you have a lot of new inquiries in that timeframe?  Is your income particularly low?

I imagine they're only sending out apps to people who they've done a soft pull on, and who would probably be approved based on the contents of that soft pull.  They might have pulled your report a little while ago though, so if it's changed for the worse since then (e.g. lower fico; new HPs), that might be the issue.  The only other really relevant piece of info in a CC app that wouldn't show up on your CR is income.  Even if your credit is sparkling, you probably won't get approved if your DTI ratio is outside their paramaters.

Sorry you're having bad luck!

Re: Citi Diamond Preferred Card Invitation

Hi, totallymytravis!

cassembler has some good advice here, find out why it is that your credit (your credit profile, and not YOU) is being rejected.  Then, work on that reason/reasons.

Citi is constantly sending me offers for cards I already have.  I must be the biggest a**hole on the planet for not wanting more of these same cards.  But then I think that maybe the marketing department at Citi doesn't have a clue about what other Citi departments do or have done, and I can sleep at night, knowing in full confidence that I'm in safe hands with Citi.  Or not.

Recon, as cassembler advised, IMO.

All the best to you and yours.

Smiley Happy
