Does anyone know how Citi does CLI? I know Amex has a 3x CLI using a SP (which is incredible), but I am not sure how Citi works? Is it a SP or HP? And how often are you able to request a CLI?
Thanks everyone!
I got this card 4 years ago and they are super conservative with CLI's. I found them along with Discover and CapOne as very conservative. I started with 7K. Once I had an emergency and used this card to get $200 cash out of ATM and boom, they lowered my CLI to 5K from the next month. After that every 6 months I get CLI's anywhere between 300-1500 and right now my limit is 6950. One good thing is that it is easy to tell if it's soft pull or hard. After that if you want more, they will do hard enquiry. The AMEX which I opened last year with 20K starting limit has CL of 28.5K. I rarly use this card even through it has 2% cash back because of the way they treated me.
Did not know that Fin, always thought it's only HP if you wanted more than what was offered/accepted (sorta like Discover), and it will be clearly stated. 4 straight CLIs since March 2017 (6 months apart), always SP and never even thought of reading the language.

It can be both OP. How long have you had the Citi DC? Is this your 1st attempt at requesting a CLI?
You definitely want to look for the SP language during the CLI request screen (a credit report will not be pulled....). Otherwise it'll be HP.
Unlike AmEx, there's no 3x scenario. With the SP language screen, the only inputs are: income and rent/mortgage IIRC.
I would agree with longtermgardener. For me Citi has always been pretty stingy on their own car credit limits. I had a DC a few years ago that didn't really grow and currently have a Premier and it is one of my lower limits even with a recent CLI (only 2k). On the other hand my Citi Hilton was at 36k.
But in answer to your main question. When you request a CLI online Citi will tell you if it will be a HP or not from their verbage.

Indeed, but perhaps I should clarify that it can be either or. For folks who aren't familiar with the SP language and see the request screen requiring a credit pull ... ta-da! HP. And, yes as you mentioned if the SP CLI went through and someone "desired" more, then that second request would be a HP (with no guarantee any more would be approved). It's one of those things that if you are approved via SP bow gracefully and be on your way 😄

Thanks for all of the info everybody. I have only had this card for a little bit so I am nowhere near the 6 month mark, I just like to know everything about the cards I have in my wallet.
