I have done this myself (although not on this card), and it had worked. At least it's worth a try.

1. I don't think Citi will use credit balance+credit limit

2. Since DC is 1% on charge and 1% on payment he won't get his full rewards even if it works.

I don't know. Based on my personal experience, I think it will work.

The current plan is to charge $3000 on the card (netting $60 cashback) and pay $200 with cash/check.

If this idea works, it would net $62 cash back (a $2/1% loss as you've pointed out but nevertheless a $2 gain), and more importatnly, less hassle of having to split up payments.

Yeah the best option is for OP to either ask for temp/perm CLI and charge the full $3200 or just charge $3k and pay the rest elsewhere and forget the rewards on that $200. I wouldn't try to put the full amount of that card without CLI in any situation.

Well, I don't see why not. Anyway, to each his own I guess!

That's true to each his own. I wouldn't even put $3k on a $3k card lol. I don't like to push things especially with credit lenders who may start to pay attention. I prefer to stay out of their way and play the game safely but that's just me Smiley Happy
