So on the citi hilton card it says you can fast track to gold with four stays over 90 days. Do these stays need to be paid for with the citi card? Or does it work if you pay with your work card?
I beleive you have to pay with the card, normally it takes 20 stays to get to gold. If you want gold status faster, go with the AMEX Hilton surpass card. It does earn points faster, and the gold status does help with room upgrades, I think I got better upgrades as a gold member than I do now as a Diamond member. Just have to justfiy the AF, 40k peoints is enough for 1-2 nights depending on the hotel level. I did both Citi and AMEX and racked up 80k points IIRC.

Anybody for a tiebreaker?
how much time are you going to spend in the hotel this year? if work is paying, getting gold will give you the most bang for your pts earned 25% bonus pts and frequent upgrade, i always booked the cheapest room and got upgraded to the middle tier room, The earning rates on the card won't effect you much since how often are you going to pay for hotels with the card to earn the 12pts per dollar, Chase CSP will probably earn you pts faster for travel. But no upgrades untill you earn them the hardware via hhonors.

Getting gold on my own this year will be tough, next year should be easy. I definatly see a lot of valu in the fast track gold IF I can pay with any card...IE my corporate BoA MC. I will probably stay another 10 or 12 times the rest of the year, I am leaning towards the citi card over the amex card, no AF versions. THe reason is this verbage in the offer:
Enjoy HHonors Silver status for as long as you are a cardmember. Earn an upgrade to HHonors Gold status after 4 stays in the Hilton Worldwide portfolio within 90 days of opening your account.
I can get to 4 stays iver three months through work and earn gold fast, then next year I can ensure I get enough stays to keep gold status. I see a lot of valu there do to the bonus 25% and the 40000 bonus points. I also like that there isnt an annual fee so I can keep the card open and reporting for a long time. The AMEX looks better for spending, but I am not looking to spend a ton on the hilton card as I can earn enough points through work to get where DW and I want to go. My only concern is will they respect my stays paid for through work? I have read through the notes on the bpottom and don't see anything obvious.

If you are using your HHonors number then yes. The fast track to Gold is tied to your Hhonors account, not to your credit card account, so just stay using your Hhonors # four times in three days and you'll be good to go.
On another note, check where you want to redeem your stays before knowing how many points you will need. Someone mentioned 40k points for 1-2 nights, and unless you are staying at a VERY low property during off season, you won't be getting 2 nights for 40k points.
This is a tool provided by Hilton to help you assess how many points you'll need at certain properties during various times of the year.
